Terezin list - ASCHERMANN #austria-czech

Joseph Lonstein

Hi all,

A first cousin of my great-grandmother's, Jindriska (Henriette) ASCHERMANN
(nee NEUMANN, born 4/28/1870), was deported >from Tabor to Terezin and later
killed in Auchwitz. Does anyone have the books of Terezin "lists" and might
look up her transport to see if any other ASCHERMANNs are there? >from past
experience with the lists, families were often kept together, and if so in
this case, it will probably help me piece together her family. Her
transport was Bz >from Tabor to Terezin on November 12, 1942.

Thanks,

Renee Steinig wrote ... "the Nobel Prize in Economics -- has been awarded to

We can also remark that in the same year, 1930, the son of a Jewish tailor
was born in London. He is Harold Pinter, winner of the 2005 Nobel Prize for
Literature.

" the Nobel Prize in Economics -- has been awarded to Robert John Aumann, of the
Center for Rationality at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Aumann was born in
Frankfurt in 1930. Those who can comprehend his work can read about it at:
http://cepa.newschool.edu/het/profiles/aumann.htm "

I hope that you will allow me this little bit of nachas. [MODERATOR NOTE:
We usually don't have room for nachas in this forum but the gehealogical
information provided by Mr. Landau is well worth preserving in our archives.]

Robert John AUMANN is a half-second cousin of mine. His grandfather and my
grandfather were half-brothers.

Our common greatgrandfather, Marcus Israel LANDAU (possibly born FREDKIN)
was born 1837 in Gomel, Mogilev, Russia.

His first wife was Hannah born 1836. She died in 1871.

Their eldest son, John LANDAU, was born in 1853 in a place unknown.. In
about 1870 he migrated to South Africa.

He had a daughter, Miriam LANDAU, born in 1892 in Johnannesburg, South Africa.
They returned to England that same year.
In 1922 she went to Frankfurt to marry Siegmund AUMANN.

I have just spoken to my father who tells me that it [?] covers most of the
front page of the London Jewish Chronicle.

He recalls that when my uncle visited Jonny as we call him, his wife got
exasperated with all their mathematical talk - my uncle was also a math
lecturer. Haven't you got anything else to talk about she asked them?

Shoah Survivor Group in Switzerland #hungary

Gábor Hirsch <g_hirsch@...>

I don't know if anybody is interested, our group of Holocaust Survivors in
Switzerland "Kontaktstelle fuer Ueberlebende des Holocaust" is 10 years old,
which is relatively short. On the 30. October we will have a meeting to this
occasion and we published privetly a small booklet describing the ten years
activities, if anybody is interested, I can send the file in Adoba *.pdf
format (ca. 750 kB). In our group there are all many nationalities, several
Hungarian, >from Slovakia (also >from the very early girl transport from
Poprad/1942 to Auschwitz) etc.

Best regards

Perlberg from Zabno-When Did They Die?? #poland

Abuwasta Abuwasta

Thanks to everyone who helped me to confirm
that Salomon Perlberg came in 1899 >from Zabno. They
also found the entry of his wife Alte in 1898(not via
the blue forms but the white forms of s. Morse). Both
were born around 1860.

Salomon ,his wife Annie(ex-Alte) lived in Manhatten,
115th Str. and had 4 kids:Isidore,Ester,Rosie and
Jack(Jacob).

I need the death certificates of Salomon and Annie but
have no idea when they died. They are not in the SSDI
so I presume that they died in the 20s or 30s.
Wonder whether any one recalls them or will have an
idea how to proceed.

Thanks,

I have a file up on viewmate which I'm hoping is the
birth record of Leiser Ber KAMINOWSKI. I believe it is
in Cyrillic and I'd be very grateful for anyone
willing to translate it for me (even if you can only
do the names).

http://data.jewishgen.org/ViewMate/ALL/viewmateview.asp?key=6955
it is VM6955 and I'd be happy to email a bigger copy
if need be.

Thanks very much!

Thank You For Name Translations #lithuania

B. Frederics <picturethisfilm@...>

Dear Siggers,

I want to thank Mel, Micha, Roberta, Sam, Simon, Steve, Lenn, Sally,
Carol, Dalya, Elisabeth, Eden and Jacqueline for taking the time to
respond to my translation request of the male name I thought was "Obaje".
The consensus seems to be Chaym or Chaja (I thought Chaja was only a female
name but have now learned otherwise), then Shaye, Obedia and Eliahu.

This man would be my great-grandfather David ADELSON's brother. His
father's name was Hirsch. So, given the above-referenced names, I'll use
Chaym/Chaja for additional research.

Thank you all again. It is much appreciated.

Shelibo and Krasnoluk (Sp.?!) (Minsk) #belarus

MavAlan Shaffer <mavalan_shaffer@...>

My thanks to everyone for their help with information
on the various spellings of Shelibo and Krasnoluk in
Minsk, and the locations.

I would be really grateful for some geographical help.
Our grandparents told us they met on the boat coming
over to England. We assumed this to be >from a Baltic
port.
Then I found in my grandfather's Naturalisation papers
at Kew (London) that they married in Krasnoluk in
December 1899.
Now we think they may have met on a river boat.
Does anyone know how people may have travelled from
shtetls in Minsk to the Baltic ports?

I would very much like to obtain a copy of their
marriage certificate.
My grandfather was Joseph Aarons, born 5th May 1877
in Shelibo (?), Minsk, son of Solomon and Grecia.
My grandmother was Sarah (Sura?) Horovitch
(Gurevich?). Married Krasnoluk, Minsk, Dec. 1899.

Does anyone have a map of this area at that time?

With many thanks.
