I am seeking any information on my father-in-law, Joseph LESLER. Joseph LESLER was
born in Poland/Russia on March 10, 1898.

Are there South Bend, City Directories >from the period 1919 thru 1925? If so,
would someone check to see if there is a entry in the earliest one? I have a
listing >from a 1926 directory.

Seeking: BLOOM (BLUM), ROZENBERG (nee BLUM)of Wyszkow, Poland #general

Howard Orenstein

Zysman BLUM (my ggggf) married Ruchle (nee PRZEPIORKA) and lived in Wyszkow,
Poland.

They had at least 3 children: Joseph Leib (born 1854?), Necha (born 1862) and
another daughter. This woman, probably born in Wyszkow, lived in England. She
travelled >from England in 1935-36 to visit the family in Wyszkow. This is the
person about whom I desire to find information. I do not know her first name, or
whether she was married, unfortunately.

Necha BLUM (my ggga) married Moshe Nuchim ROZENBERG in 1880 in Wyszkow. She died
in 1937.

Joseph Leib BLUM (my gggf), married Ita Cywia (nee OSTROWIAK; 1872?? probably in
Wyszkow). They lived in London, England in 1870s, possibly until mid-1880s. Joseph
Leib died in an accident in a seltzer factory in 1919 in Wyszkow. They had at
least 6 children, Samuel (b. 1871, London); Fishel (later known as Phillip, b.
London, 1874); Leja (b, 1878); Chaim (b. 1880), birthplaces undetermined for these
2. Finally, Moshe and Rachel were born in Wyszkow, eventually settled in US.

Please contact me privately if you have any information or suggestions.
Thanks.

This is just a supposition. The town of Speyer was the origin site of the SPIRA
family. If there are any SHAPIRO, SHAPIRA, or SPIRAs in your ancestry, then I
believe they are all of Jewish origina. My Spira and SHJAPIRO ancestors came >from
the town of Speyer in the sixteenth century. My Landau family (My great, great

Seeking: MOSKOVITS/Lastomir #general

I was in Michalovce in August and found the grave of Leopold (Aryeh ben Menachem
haLevi) MOSKOVITS, a previously unknown relative, who is buried next to my
great-grandparents, Markusz (Marek, Mordche haLevi) MOSKOVITS and Sali KOHN.
Leopold was reportedly born in Lastomir in 1861 and moved to Nagymihaly (now
Michalovce). He was a butcher and had two wives (Mali GRUENSTEIN and Fani
KESSLER) who gave him 15 children, at least 3 of whom were Holocaust victims. I
know of a Dovid MOSKOVITS >from Lastomir who married Hani NEUMAN and was living in
Szobrancz before 1895. Not sure if there's a connection. Also found a David
MOSKOVITS living in Lastomir in the 1812 Zemplen Census. Please contact me if you
have any info on MOSKOVITS families >from Lastomir.

Seeking: Rev Simeon SINGER ( Hungary ) #general

Aubrey Jacobus <zen28027@...>

I am researching the family background of Rev Simeon SINGER an important figure in
19th C Anglo Jewry
Simeon was reputedly b 5/11/1847 and was the youngest child , his mum died in
1855 and parents Julius and Charlotte ( WOOLF ) married 20-Sep-1837 in London .
Mystery is Simeon only is with his dad in 1861census - where are the older kids
4 or 5 of them perhaps.
Cant see any likely marriages Singer 1855-1861 or births 1838-1847 in London
Any way to find the family in London 1851 that you can think of. ?
Is there an index to the 1851 London census ?

Ideas welcomed

Gravestone Photos: Katie GUTTMAN, also Celia DIAMOND from NY/NJ #general

dayna reader <zoeys_mom@...>

A while back a very nice woman in NY took some gravestone photos for me in the
Beth Hamedrosh Hagadol section of Riverside Cemetery in Saddlebrook, Bergen Co, NJ
(very near the NY border & with lots of burials for former residents of NY).

She was very thourough, and took 2 photos of gravestones that turned out not to be
relatives of mine, but I have held onto them in case someone else out there might
have a connection to these 2 women. If you think they might be relatives of yours,
please email me off-list with your address and I'll be happy to mail the photo to
you.

Here is the info >from the gravestones:

Katie GUTTMAN, daughter of Zev Wulf (?)
hebrew name: hay/aleph/shin/hay (Hasha?)
dates are unreadable, but it is likely she died in the 1920s, 30s or 40s.

Celia DIAMOND, died 11-23-1931, age 47 years, "Sister"
daughter of: Reb lamed/yod/fey/aleph
hebrew name: tsadie/yod/fey/hay

Dear Researchers,

I have recently come across a website that contains many photographs of
headstones >from the old Jewish Cemetery in Breslau.

Some of you may find it of interest. The web site also has other
information and resources of value eg a searchable version of the 1941
Breslau address book
