Looking for the KOENIGSBUCH Brothers #galicia

Abuwasta Abuwasta

Dear Genners and Siggers,

My name is Jacob Rosen >from Jerusalem. Researching my
maternal family KOENIGSBUCH >from Brzesko, Galicia (nowadays
Poland). Had amazing breakthroughs since I started >from scratch
about 3 years ago. The main discovery was that there were many
2nd and 3rd cousins of my grandfather who moved to Germany
between 1890-1915 about whom we had no idea. I managed to track
down many of them (most left to Palestine when Hitler came to power).

However,I still face a hard nut:one of those cousins,
Aron (Adolf) KOENIGSBUCH who moved to Hamburg had
2 sons Rolf Simon (b.1929) and Kurt Max (b.1931). Both
were on the Kindertransport and survived.

In the late 1940 both joined the British Army and in
the 1960s Rolf Simon lived in the USA in New Jersey
and Kurt Max who probably changed his name to Max
Harper lived in Toronto, Canada.

All my attempts through the Kindertransport
Association, Association of Jewish Refugees, Hamburg
State Archives and the Wiener Library brought me only
to the end of the 1960s. All were very cooperative and
disclosed what they have or know but to no avail. I am
still checking through the British Army which is very
protective.

I presume that both brothers are still around and
count on the new members of the lists who may have
bumped into one of them.

In Polish there is a popular saying that sometimes
even a blind chicken may find a seed... Who knows.

Thanks
Jacob Rosen

Surname BORYS, place of birth Hajnowka, Poland 1935 #general

Hi,
I have recently found that my family >from my mother's side is not my natural
family.

The whole history is a bit complicated and my mom seems rather unwilling to talk
about it, but I have found that during the IIWW Helena BORYS, my grandmother,
probably took a child (my mom) and took any birth certificate for her (during the
war they did not really care about it). The birth certificate was for Helena
Borys, born in Hajnowka, Poland in 1935.

But before my grandmother died she had managed to confess that my monther was not
her child. And that's all.

All I know is that Helena Borys is not her name and she is perhaps several years
younger than the birth certificate shows.
The couple was Maria and Adam Borys, they were living in Warsaw.

Now, I am wondering if it is at all possible to locate anyone who is perhaps
looking for a girl (now a woman, of course), taken by a Polish family (for a
payment perhaps) to Warsaw. My mom might be Jewish, although I am not sure.

Anybody could advise something?
Thanks in advance,

Dorota Boniecka

My family is descended >from Machoel PUNYA.
The name was changed at Ellis Island by a misunderstanding. Instead of the family
name, Isador, his son, gave his profession as a "Baker" pronounced "Becker" in
Yiddish, so that was what he was registered as! We also lived in Chicago and I
have photos of my cousins, now the BECKERs.

In the 1891 Census of the Isle of Man someone named COHEN has the recorded
occupation of Gilliardist. This is clearly written.

Does anyone know what this means?

Two entries for Punia (exact spelling) are listed in JRI-P database in Bialystok,
Grodno Guberniya, 1870.

BTW,
Punia is the name of two towns in Lithuania, located some 50 miles WSW >from Vilna.

I have 2 pictures up on ViewMate currently and I'd
like to ask everyone to take a quick look at them.

The first is VM 6748, a picture of part of the
LEMELMAN family >from Olszany (Hoshany), Belarus. Their
surname in America was LAND. I'm searching for anyone
descended >from the two younger people in the photo,
Morris LAND and Anna/Annie (Land) SEIGEL. Morris
married Celia, and Annie married Morris Seigel, and
they all lived in NY. Annie died in 1936.

The second picture is VM 6752, the MINTZ family. They
owned a farm in Colchester, CT. USA in the late 1800s,
early 1900s. I have a whole photo album of this family
and am unable to identify most of the people (and I'm
only marginally realted to most of them...I'd love to
hook some lucky person who is more closely related up
with these beautiful pictures).

Please respond privately.
