Mandatory Citizenship
#general
Israel P
I just received a phone call >from the Israel National Archives advising me
that due to new privacy regulations, they can no longer permit the public to order (to see or copy) Mandatory Citizenship files that are less than seventy years old, unless the Ministry of Internal Affairs give permission. (And why should they??!) The full regulations on the matter have not been published, so for the time being we are in limbo. They said I should inquire further in two weeks. Since the files that were not destroyed by the withdrawing Mandatory Government do not begin until 1933, this new policy may wipe out this entire database as a useful resource, though the microfilm index has not yet been declared off-limits. BARNETT 1900 Census Stumper
#general
jewishgen@juno.com <jewishgen@...>
Dave BARNETT and his wife (and half-niece), Rachel are listed in the 1900
Federal Census for Oil City, Pennsylvania though it took me forever to find them because, as someone informed me, Dave is indexed as "Darra." (He is listed as "Dare BARNETT is another census so this shouldn't surprise me, I guess.) My poor copy of the 1900 census record looked as though the sapce for number of children was blacked out. Again, someone with a clearer copy tells me that the number of children is listed as 0. In either case, this is strange because my information >from other sources suggests that oldest daughter Florence/Florance (Mrs. Mark) GRINSPAN was born about 1889 somewhere in Pennsylvania and that youngest daughter Daisy (Mrs. Abe) FARBER was born in Tionesta on January 15, 1890. Dave and Rae divorced a few years later, so perhaps the daughters were being raised by relatives, but I haven't been able to confirm that. Anyone know where they wree in 1900? The 1889 and 1900 birthdates could be off, but I don't think by much, if at all. Stacy Harris Nashville, Tennessee USA

Dear All,
When I checked the JGFF to see who else might be researching METZGER in Germany, only one name popped up as being as interested in METZGER >from Kirchheimbolanden. This researcher was listed as Helmut Marum, Researcher # 14307. I clicked the link, and wrote an e-mail, but as I have not received any reply I was hoping someone out there might have current contact information for him. TIA!
