Re: Translation of Romanian on back of picture postcard #general

First I would like to thank all of this Group with their generous offer
to translate for me in the last 24 hours!

I have the translation and won't need any more help with this.
You are the greatest!!

I have already thanked all of those who have done the translation for
me.

I received 4 translations (>from four different countries, by the way).
What appears to be just a simple message, has given me some remarkable
information. For example, the name of one of the siblings I have been
searching for. A real find!!

I will be giving a donation to JewishGen in appreciation.

Yuri Stern's genealogy research #general

The Hebrew weekly newspaper Makor Rishon had a magazine feature on MK
Yuri Stern's genealogy research, with particular emphasis on his KAMINSKY
grandfather. The article can be found at
http://makorrishon.co.il/article.php?id=4292. In Hebrew.

They change the site every Sunday, so I don't know if this link will
remain after next Sunday. (I will throw out my print copy on Friday.)

Taking photo of Jerusalem gravestone #general

Is there anyone in the Jerusalem area who would be kind enough to take
a picture of my great-grandfather's gravestone for me? He is buried on
the Mount of Olives, and I can provide his name, as well as the exact
location of his grave.

If so, please respond privately.

Many thanks for your help.

1. Horsecart driver (wagoneer).

This occupation was generally known in Yiddish as balagula (>from Hebrew:
baal agula) - the master of the wheels. Term was used primary for the
horsedrivers engaged in the goods transportation.

2. Coachman - a horse "taxicab" driver - people transportation

BTW. Village modern name is Timkovichi, Belarus

My great grand mother's death act says she was born in 1882 in Bialki,
Poland. I can't find this place. I know the family lived around
Sokolow, Ryki... Her father was Rabbi Nachman Oberklajd and one of her
brothers, David, was a Sokolow hassid.
Does anybody know more about Bialki?

Thank you!

The word cab is the shortened form of the word word taxicab. Thus cabman
means a driver of cabs ie taxis.

Reychman's "Szkice Genealogiczne" #warsaw #poland

I have just come into possession of a copy of the 1985
reprint of Kazimierz Reychman's "Szkice Genealogiczne"
["Genealogical Sketches"] that was first published, in
Warsaw, in 1936.

My Polish is nonexistent, but the book seems to consist of
short (2-4 page) sections, listing names and dates (back
to as early as, in some cases, the mid-18th century) for
each of a few dozen Warsaw families. Yale Reisner - at
the Lauder Foundation in Warsaw - tells me that while
Reychamn's data "is not totally flawless, in general, it
is highly reliable, as we have had contact with many of
the families included and they have confirmed many
details." For anyone interested, I would be pleased to
scan and email the relevant pages.

The families listed are:

Isidor OHRINGER #general

After my uncle Hermann OHRINGER >from Amsterdam passed away some years ago,
I helped my cousin, his daughter, through the letters and documents he
left.
To my astonishment I found an affidavit which an american cousin,
Isidor OHRINGER, 59 years old, >from Riverside Drive XXX, New York City, sent
to him for me and my sister, in 1948 ( we were minors).
We never intended to use this as our wish was to come to Israel and we were
not in touch .
But now I would like very much to find this cousin and his (our) family.
I would like to get advise how to go about this.

I constantly update my programs and backup my data. I figure that in fewer
than five years everything will be stored on a chip. I will then convert to
that medium. I also make hard copies of EVERYTHING!!
