Reychman's "Szkice Genealogiczne" #poland

Peter Lebensold

I have just come into possession of a copy of the 1985
reprint of Kazimierz Reychman's "Szkice Genealogiczne"
["Genealogical Sketches"] that was first published, in
Warsaw, in 1936.

My Polish is nonexistent, but the book seems to consist of
short (2-4 page) sections, listing names and dates (back
to as early as, in some cases, the mid-18th century) for
each of a few dozen Warsaw families. Yale Reisner - at
the Lauder Foundation in Warsaw - tells me that while
Reychamn's data "is not totally flawless, in general, it
is highly reliable, as we have had contact with many of
the families included and they have confirmed many
details." For anyone interested, I would be pleased to
scan and email the relevant pages.

The families listed are:

ADELSTEIN
BERGSON
BERNSTEIN

We have a postcard sent to Canada years ago postmarked "Skaryszow"
which town I am having trouble finding. Note that the spelling in the
middle of the word is quite different.
I think you are looking for Skaryszew (note the ending -ew, not -ow with
an accent), which is indeed near Radom (13 km in the direction of Ilza).
The town has a web site, but it's only in Polish, and there is no map on
the site.

Hello,
I'm hoping that someone can assist me. I have gone to Miriam Weiner's RTR
site and found that there are existing birth records for the years that my
relatives were born, and that they are in the Dubienka USC office. Where do
I go with that? I do not see a specific USC office in the town of Dubienka
so I'm unsure of a next step. Thanks in advance.

Dear Lesley

I am surprised you write that you have found numerous Birth, Marriage and
Death records not available on the JewishGen databases.

I have had a quick look through the All-UK and Supplementary UK databases on
JCR-UK and have come across quite a number of Rosenheims including a Herman
who is buried in Balls Pond Road Cemetery and who died on 5th February 1904
aged 70. This seems to tally with your Herman born c 1834.

I hope that this is of help to you.

I'm hoping someone can help me with my husband's family. His mother was
Elsie Rosenheim, born in London 1906; her father was Willy Rosenheim, a wine
merchant born 1874 in London. I know (>from censuses) that Willy's father was
Herman Rosenheim, born in Bavaria c1834.

Unfortunately that's all I know about Willy's family. He and his family
lived in Hampstead London. I'm hoping to trace Herman's brothers and
sisters, which will be the next step in finding his parents.

On the 1871 census there is a Joseph Rosenheim, also a wine merchant, living next door to Herman. He also came >from Bavaria. He could be a brother, but I can't be sure. I've found another Rosenheim wine merchant, Leopold Joseph - again, they're family names, but I don't know how to make the connection. There was a firm of wine shippers consisting of Herman, Max and Leopold Rosenheim and a Maurice Dunk operating in London and Bordeaux.

I have found numerous Births, Marriages and Deaths of Rosenheims >from the Hampstead area of London which are not recorded on JewishGen databases - all this information and no way of putting it together.

I'm hoping someone else will have the family on their tree and could point me in the right direction to take another step back along the family tree. Or maybe someone could suggest somewhere I could look to progress my searches.

I'll be very grateful.
