Quite correct and that is basically the case. Prior to the early 20th
century international agreement that settled on the Greenwich Meridian as
the Prime Meridian for everyone, each country selected its own Prime
Meridian. The British Empire and the US used the Greenwich Meridian. The
French Empire used the Paris Meridian, of course. The Austrian Empire used
the Ferro Meridian, which passes through Hierro (or Ferro) Island, the
western-most of the Canary Islands. This makes sense for a European land
power, as everything in Europe would have an East Longitude. Very little
opportunity for that messy math connected with comparing points on both
sides of the Prime Meridian.

The Ferro Meridian is 17 degrees 40 minutes East of the Greenwich Meridian.
Hence the difference you noted.

Dear Cousins,

Does the name Dr. Nathan Adler Lodge (associated

g-grandparents Max SCHNEIDER b. abt. 1870 and Dora

Putting Yiskor book into WORD format

I wrote the Yiskor book ( Koden,a Shtetl No More) for Koden, Lublin,
Poland/Russia . It is 294 pages long. I have it in hard copy, on a
microfiche and the 294 pages in individual tif. pages. Most of the text
portion which I did in Word form is online in the Yiskor book section.
However, many of the pages are my notes indexing the entire 3 films ( >from
FHC) of Koden. And pictures. They are not accepted by the Yiskor book
unless they are in Word format. Is there anyone who knows how to do this
and will do it for me so I can have the entire Yiskor book online? There are
about 120 pages of the indexes which include names, parents', occupations,
ages,spouses names and ages, causes of deaths on some, etc. and some
pictures of the town and holocaust victims.

Oblast' (Province)] of Ukraine.

Both towns, Bachmach (now Bakhmach) and Gluchow (now Hluchiv) were (are)
located within this Guberniya.
