Dear Fellow Galitzianers:

It was in November 2000 that the AGAD Archive project was started to
index the records for 87 Administrative towns >from the former Austrian
province of Galicia. Of these towns, 84 are now in Ukraine and 3 are in
Poland near the Ukraine border. Four and a half years later, 78 of these
towns have been fully or partially indexed. Quite an accomplishment
thanks to many of you.

The 9 towns not yet indexed are:
Jaworow/Yavorov
Kosow/Kosov
Krakowiec/Krakovets
Krzywcze Gorne/Verkhneye Krivche
Olesko
Rudki
Uhnow/Ugnev
Zniesienie/Znesen'ye
Zolkiew/Nesterov

If you are interested in these towns or nearby smaller shtetlach, you
may be interested in Surname lists that have been developed for the
records registered in these 9 Administrative towns. If you do, please
contact me privately and I will search the surname lists for you.

Recorded IAJGS Conerence Sessions Ready for Shipment #galicia

Carol W. Skydell <cskydell@...>

Dear 'Genners..

We are delighted to tell you about a wonderful opportunity to own a set of
3 CDs containing 31 recorded presentations at the just concluded IAJGS
conference in Las Vegas. All this is thanks to Ron Arons and his small
army of volunteers. Ron stepped up to the plate when it was announced that
the customary practice of recording the sessions could not be
followed. Conference attendees as well as those who were not able to join
us in Las Vegas now have an opportunity to listen to 31 of the sessions.

We are making the complete set available at a very affordable $35 plus
modest shipping and handling costs. Shipping cost will vary depending on
the country to which the set is being delivered and will show up when you
go through the ordering system in the Mall. Nothing is charged to your
credit card until you approve, so don't be timid about using the
system. Ron will start burning CDs and shipping as soon as he begins to
get the orders. Hopefully you will keep him busy for the next few weeks!

To see a complete listing of which of the sessions were recorded visit
the JewishGenMall at www.jewishgenmall.org The quickest way to find
the complete description is to either enter the full title into the search
field,
"IAJGS 2005 Conference Lectures in a 3 CD Set (MP3 audio files)" or just
select "Recorded Lecture"s >from the Topic drop down box.
The sooner you order, the sooner you can enjoy listening to the conference
lectures at your leisure.

Relatives #lodz #poland

Keith Hatfield <hatfield.1@...>

To whom it may concern,
I do not know if this is appropriate, or of interest. I have only recently
discovered that my grandparents were both Polish and Czech Jews. Please find
their details listed below as received >from the National Archives in Prague.
I would love to know if anyone has any further information on my family.

Otto 28.4.1892 and Ester WERNER(nee ADLER) 16.12.1904, were sent to Terezin
13.7.1943, >from there to auschwitz 6.9.1943. Their last address before
deportation was: Praha 1 Benediktska 2.

My maternal Great Grandparents were born in Lodz, Poland.
Nach Natalia ADLER (nee MICHALOWICZ) 4.1 or 23.12.1876 and Gerson ADLER,
17.4 or 11.5.1877, came to Terezin 22.2.1942 and were sent to Treblinka
19.2.1942. They lived not in Prague, but in Slany near Kladno.

Their children were: Ester WERNER (nee ADLER) 16.12.1904. Anna ADLER,
13.12.1911 were sent to Terezin 24.4.1942, >from there to Treblinks
19.10.1942.
Mosek Sljama (Moritz?) 22.3.1903, came to Terezin 4.12.1941 and to Treblinka
19.10. 1942. It might be that he volunteered to go with the family, because
people who came 4.12.1941 were not sent at this time to Poland. Natalia,
Anna and Mosek Sljama lived, before deportation, in Praha XIV, Nazahonech
16.

There was also a sibling, Ida HOFFMAN (nee ADLER) 2.1 or 4.1.1909 who
married a Jindrich HOFFMAN 25.9.1905 (Valasske Mezirici) in approx. 1930.
She survived the Holocaust because they moved to Israel and were the people
to whom my Mother, Hanna WERNER, was sent.

Regards, Sherry Hatfield.

Re: Romanian Archives Question #romania

Rosanne Leeson <rdleeson@...>

Sorin,

The Jewish records were kept by the Jewish communities. To my knowledge
these were all in Romanian. Very early records were written in Cyrillic
Romanian, which unfortunately can now only be read by a few scholars.

If you want to know more about the kinds of records that were kept in
Romania you should read the chapter on Romania, in the new Avotaynu
Guide to Jewish Genelaogy, of Mokotoff and Sack.

There are two possible types of records: Romanian records and the

were kept in Idish ??)

Thanks,
Sorin Goldenberg,

Re: Quebec Index for Stillborns in 1920's #general

Valerie, the JGS-Montreal has a moderately complete set of Jewish
vital records (+some non-Jewish) for 1841-1942, and I can
definitively say that the answer to both questions is *yes*.

That is, some were recorded (either under births or deaths) and many
(or perhaps most) were not recorded at all. But for that matter, many
live births were also not recorded immediately or ever.

If you send me the details privately, I can check.
