Names from OStrow Census Records 1836 LDS Film No1271464 #poland

Geoff Kaiser <geoff_kaiser@...>

I have recently viewed LDS film 1271464 which is Census records >from 1836
for Ostrowo (Ostrow Wielkopolski) .

Below is a list of names that I have extracted >from this film. Note that I
may have incorrectly transcribed some names and the list may not be
absolutley complete as the film had a number of pages that appeared to be
repeated or partly repeated.

I extracted what I believe is very good information for myself. By posting
this list I hope that I can assist others.

Origins of people around the world #dna

Jeff Malka <malkajef@...>

I heard on CNN about a project to determine the distant origins
of peoples around the world using DNA. Are you involved in this
world-wide project and would it provide useful additional data to
the genealogical DNA research you do?

Thanks.

GhoticGerman- Yiddish- Hungarian Translation #hungary

Fern Ward <FRWard@...>

I am still trying to find someone who could/would translate VM5757, 5758 and
5759. http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate
Apparently the writer of the letter (I think my great-grandmother but am not
sure) wrote it in a combination of Ghotic German, Yiddish, and Hungarian.

Since I am not familiar with any of the languages, if anyone can even pick
certain words out of the letters, I would appreciate it. (Maybe I could put
all of it together and make sense of it) OR if anyone has any ideas on where
I might go for a translation.....

Has anyone else run across anything like this? Are there certain parts of
the country where all three of these languages prevailed to the point of
combining. Could this alone be a clue on where I should be searching?

Again, thank you

I live in Australia but would dearly love to have a photograph of my great
aunt Beckie's gravestone. I wondered whether there is one among you who
has
a digital camera and would be going sometime in the near future to the UHC
cemetery, which I assume stands for United Hebrew Congregation. I
believe
the Congregation administers the Louis Street Cemetery.
Her name was Rebecca Simon and she died on the 13th November, 1953. I
have
a folio number which is D# 3184.
Please reply to myra@... if you are able to help by
photographing
this headstone and emailing the result to me.

US Army Records Regarding Medals #general

e stern <estern@...>

My father in law received 5 Bronze Stars for combat in World War II.
Unfortunately, I did not discover this until I located his Army papers
long after his passing. He never spoke a word of these awards. Noting
that many service records burned in 1970, is there another location in
which military honors were recorded? I would like to get the when,
where and how of his awards.
