Searching for families that lived or worked at the at the ZUSMAN faience
factory, in KAMENNY BROD, UKRAINE.

Prior to 1904 my grandfather MEYER ISAAC OXENHORN worked at this factory in
KAMENNY BROD (there are several variences of the spelling),
Novgorod-Vylensk, Volhynia

My grandfather came Ostrog (his birthplace) and grandmother CHAIKE (IDA)
GERMAN came >from Novgorod-Volynsk (her birthplace) or sometimes referred to as
Zvil.

This factory was listed in a 1895 business directory. In 1919 there was a
pogrom in the town.
I am sure other relatives that did not migrate were killed. The factory may
have closed after that event.

Does anyone in their search have any connection to this factory? In 1919
there was a pogrom in the town and men, women and children were killed.

As part of a course exploring the way that databases can be used by
historians, I am currently undertaking a short academic study of kinship
links among the families of Jewish butchers in Rhineland Germany. I will
be exploring the links between families and will supplement this with other
detailed information about Jewish families in the area.

If you have any information that you think might be useful background data
for my study, no matter how anecdotal, I would be interested in hearing

from you. In particular I am interested in hearing views about using

databases for historical research, about academic or other less formal
sources that might be suitable for further research.

I am also interested in hearing about the history of all aspects related to
Jewish involvement in the trades and professions of butchery, starting with
animal keeping, through slaughter, butchering, sausage making and associated
employments such as spice merchants and sausage skin making trades and
professions, (but not where to locate the laws of Kashrut).

I would also be interested in hearing more about written sources of
information concerning last names associated with all these trades and
professions. I have already undertaken a full search of the JewishGen
website and in particular the GERSIG archive, which has provided much
useful information.

In researching my MISHURSKI ancestors, I discovered
that I had a cousin Boris who was a cancer researcher
working at Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus when he
was killed in 1948 by an Arab sniper. I don't know if
he left any family.

Recently, however, I found that his biography is
posted in Hebrew on the Israeli government's Izkor web
site. As my Hebrew is minimal, would some kind soul
translate the biography for me? Help would be most
