Those who made contribution to the Warsaw Ghetto Death Card database
were able to obtain a copy of the entire excel file. I have checked
in the excel file and there was no other person living in the same
apartment on the database.

I am searching informations about the family SMIETAN, wich was living=2
Nowolipki 31m28 before the war. I dont have news of their since 1939.

I am just discovering on JRI Poland the death card of Paulina Zarecka,
who was living precisely Nowolipki 31m28 in 1941 (before dying in July)
It is interessant for me to know the story of the appartement.

I ask the following: Is there a way to look up directly on the excel
file of the Warsaw Ghetto Death Card if other people had died who precisely
were living at Nowolipki 31/28?

Many thanks to advance

Re: Military records in the Austro-Hungarian Empire #general

Brian Stern <brians99@...>

On 14th May, Tom Weiss asked about the location of the
military records of Eastern Galicia.
There exists at the family history library in Salt Lake City a very large
set of microfilms related to Austr-Hungarian Military records (around 3000
films). I once looked at a few of these films and it seemed like they
would hold a lot of useful info for researchers like us. However, there
doesn't seem to be any useful finding aid or good description of the
contents of these films. Needless to say I didn't find what I was looking
for.

Lithuania Internal Passport Database - UPDATE #lithuania

Howard Margol

56 additional names have just been added to the Lithuania Internal
Passport Database.
http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Lithuania/InternalPassports.htm

This brings the total to over 1,800 names included in the database. Search
the database and you may find your ancestors. If you do find someone of
interest, I suggest you contact the Lithuanian Central Archives and obtain
copies of the documents contained in that individual's file. Many files
include a passport,a photograph, birth record, and other valuable documents.
Full instructions on how to contact the archive is included in the database
introduction.

Once while helping someone research his family who had belonged to a
congregation in Ozone Park, Queens, NY, where for a time my late father had been
the rabbi, a woman I contacted mentioned an unexpected extra for me. It seems
the shul had been at one end of the block, the woman lived as a child in the
middle of the block, and my parents lived in an apartment at the other end of
the block -- and this woman told me she remembered seeing my mother push me in
my baby carriage.
And one of my best sources for information on my father's family was a
woman who started out as a playmate of one my father's sisters >from the time
they were in 7th grade and then later married into the family and became one of
my favorite aunts.
Just as you never know what documents will turn up until you go to an
archive to search, you never know what friend or acquaintance of a given family
might hold an unexpected clue to family research until you start widening your
research net.

I know this would be a lot of work and I have only done it in a few cases,
making copies of pages, as I was looking through US census lists for my family
in Buffalo NY, 1910-1930. This could be very handy in your research. In my case
it helped me find family and friends because I remembered people whom my mom
and aunt associated with. Recently on a trip back East I visited a couple whom
I knew as a teenager and young adult and whom I hadn't seen in 50 years. They
invited another lady over who had been a childhood friend of mine. Our families
had been close back then. She brought over a bunch of photos of people we knew
and there was one photo of her grandmother with a small group of others taken
in the Jewish Old Folks Home in Buffalo around 1950. As I looked at the picture
I was amazed to see my grandfather who was still living there at 80. You never
know when you might get some help or give some to another person doing research.

I came across a curious finding. One my relatives was directly involved
in the Irgun bombing of the King David Hotel in july 1946. Apparently, he was
part of the group that entered the basement of the hotel and placed the
explosives. I do not know whatever happened to him. He was a German Jew
and I believe was second in command of that operation.

Aside >from the Etzel (Irgun) library web site and Thurston Clarke's book
"By Blood and Fire," and Menachem Begin's own book, does anyone know of any
other specific english document, book or source that offers great detail about
those involved in the King David incident?

Thanks.
