Schame DUBINER (age 20) immigrated to the US in 1908 with his
mother and brother. His mother Taube DUBINER became Tillie RUBIN. His brother Scholem DUBINER became Charles RUBIN. As every other family member also took the name RUBIN, we assume Schame did too. But what would he have used for a first name? All guesses appreciated! AK <alan.kolnik@...>
Thanks to the many people who gave me leads on this.
For those struggling with the same matter, take a look at this map (it is found in several other places on the web as well): http://www.chalem.com/genealogy/maps/migration.htm - it indicates that Jews migrated to the north east out of "Hungary" and "Austria" in the 1300's and 14-00's, so could easily have continued later - say in the 1600's and 1700's, landing up in "poland" Rgds Alan Kolnik Remove add-an-n-before-the-dot- and add an "n" after "verizo" to the address below: alan.kolnik@add-an-n-before-the-dot-verizo.net

Breast Cancer Gene and Genealogy
#galicia
Shelly Crane
Dear Fellow Genealogists,
I have been doing genealogy research for many different reasons. One in particular is to search for relatives who might also have the same genetic mutation that I've inherited >from my mother: the Breast Cancer-1 gene and specifically the 185delAG mutation. Breast, ovarian and prostate cancer are the most likely types of cancer that occur with this gene. It appears that this common mutation has been found among the Ashkenazi Jewish population and presumably originated form a single ancestor many moons ago! With that said, if you have this specific gene mutation and/or a family history of these cancers, it would be great to compare notes and perhaps find our ancestral links, particularly if we share common surnames...see below. My maternal relatives lived in the Suwalki-Lomza area of Poland, but who knows where they originated 200-300 years ago and beyond. Consequently, I'm posting this in more than one sig digest. Please respond privately. Shelly Crane crzprncess@aol.com The following are some of the surnames in my mother's family tree. ALEXANDROWICZ, BARANOWICZ, BRZOZA, BUGAJSKI, BUKOWICZ, CYPKOWSKI, CZAPNICKI, DANOWSKI, DAWIDOWICZ, DOMB, FAJNTUCH, FINKIELSZTEYN, FORSZTADT, FRAJND/FROYD, FROMSEN, GABELMAN, GARBARSKY, GOROWSKI/GURLOWSKI, GRUBAVITS, HERZSON, HOROWICZ, HORUSZ, JAKUBINSKI, KOBRANSKI, KOWNACKI, KRASZEWSKI, LANGUS, LIBERMAN, LIPOVICH/LIPOWICZ/LIPOFF, LIPSZYC, MICMACHER, MILEWICZ, MILSZTEJN, NAJMARK, ORKOWSKI, OROWICZ, PERCOWNA, PIECHOTA, PIENTAK, ROSENSZTEJN, SIEDOROWSKI, SILBERMAN, SZEINKOP, SZARFSZTEIN, SZTABINSKI, TOCZYLOWSKI, TYCKIEWICZ, WINICKA, ZLOSTICA, ZYLBERSZTEJN

Galicia Luncheon - New Date - Thursday
#galicia
Shelley K. Pollero
The Gesher Galicia Luncheon is now scheduled for Thursday, July 14, 2005.
The Conference Committee had to change it for logistical reasons. I hope that this will not inconvenience anyone. As far as I know, the only conflict will be with the Latvia SIG Luncheon. I think that you can still register for the Galicia Luncheon. There are several Galicia programs on Thursday, so it will be a good day to meet together for lunch. The Galicia events are as scheduled, according to the preliminary schedule (although the luncheon date has not yet been updated). Any further changes will be made to the Daily Planner and I will report them to you. Hopefully there will be no more changes. See the Daily Planner at http://www.jewishgen.org/lv2005/planner.htm Galicia BOF 5:00 pm Monday Gesher Galicia SIG meeting 11:15 am Tuesday GG Table at SIG Fair 9 am - 5 pm Wednesday Galicia Luncheon 12:30 pm Thursday Galitzianers, let me know if you are going to the conference! Reminder: Early Registration has been extended until May 8. Regards, Shelley K. Pollero, Coordinator Gesher Galicia Severna Park, Maryland geshergalicia@comcast.net http://www.jewishgen.org/Galicia/
