NH Solomons and Hammersmith #unitedkingdom

See: Jeffrey & Barbara BAUM, A light unto my path: the story of H.N. Solomon of Edmonton, Edmonton Hundred Historical Sopciety, Occasional paper new series 1981. There are four other publications called HERITAGE published by the jewish section of that Historical Society.

Harold Pollins
---------------------------------------------------

In The Great Synagogue, Roth, mentions, p227 “[the] best known pedagogues
of Hanoverian.......above all R. Moseh Eleazor of Gravel Lane (formerly of
Lea), father of NH Solomons whose school at Hammersmith and then at Edmonton
was subsequently famous.”

Do any list members know anything about NH Solomons and his school in
Hammersmith or, for that matter, any Jewish community in Hammersmith
1823-1841?

Genealogy of Hagaon Rav Yosef Zecahriah SHTERN #lithuania

Steve Sidney <sbsidney@...>

Dear Group

I have just recently subscribed to this list.

I am trying to more accurately trace my family tree back to Rav Yoesf
Zechariah SHTERN who was the Head of the Beth Din in Shavel in the late
1800's.

Whilst there is a lot of information regarding his lineage, there
appears to be very little about his sons daughters.

My family connection is that my late mothers father, my Zeide's father
was married to a daughter of the Rav. SInce he was married twice I do
not know >from which marriage this relate to.

Unfortunately I do not have her name and can find no record of this
information.

I would appreciate any information that would help in this regard.

My Grandfathers name was ABRAHAM DUSHEIKO and his Father's name was
LAPIDUS DUSHEIKO.

Kind Regards
Steve Sidney

searching for Keidaner Edelman from New York #lithuania

Tamar Dothan <dothan-t@...>

I have been very lucky in locating descendents of my grandfather's
cousins in New Zealand, South Africa, US and Israel through this sig and
the JewishGen Family Finder. I hope to be lucky again.

Does anyone know anything about descendents of Aaron Edelman who died
in 1953, aged 53, and is burried in the Montefiore cemetery in Queens,
New York? Aaron came to the US as a child in 1907 >from Keidan with his
family. His parents were Isidore [Yitzkhak] Meir and Rivka, and he
had a brother Nathan and a sister Ana, who both died quite young.

I am also looking for descendents of Louis Edelman [Aaron's uncle], son
of Wolf and Rachel Le'ah, who came to New York >from Keidan before 1907.

Thank you,

Tamar Dothan
Jerusalem, Israel

LERNER [Kitaygorod, Minkovitz, Terespol and Dunayevtze- Ukraine, and
Buenos Aires]; LUTZKY [Zhvanetz and Dunayevtze - Ukraine]; Brand

Polish comment on birth record #poland

Israel P

I am having trouble with a Polish comment on the birth record at
http://www.pikholz.org/Kranter.html (bottom right corner). It seems
to have to do with the marital status of Gittel PIKHOLZ and the Aron
KRANTER, the parents of the mother of the child.

Thank you.

Paula Eisenstein Baker enquires about Edinburgh Jewish newspapers in 1914.

I don't know of any specifically Edinburgh Jewish newspapers. In 1914
there was a Yiddish newspaper in Glasgow, but I've only ever seen one or
two
copies.

The best thing would be to check in the main general newspaper, "The
Scotsman". This newspaper has an online archive at:

http://archive.scotsman.com/Default/Skins/TSPLa/Client.asp?skin=
TSPLa&daily=TSC&enter=true&AppName=2&GZ=T&FromWelcome=False&AW=1118247359902

This covers the period 1817-1950.

Searching the index is free, but there is a charge for seeing the full
extract.

By using Jewish as a key word and narrowing the search down to 1914, I
found 162 entries - but haven't checked if any refer to the concert.

The British Library in London has copies of almost every newspaper that was
printed in England (I don't know about Scotland). My father was able to look
at copies of a shortlived newspaper called the Jewish Standard that my
greatgrandfather was involved with about 1890.
