I have no family name.
She was adopted through a jewish organisation of the Breslauer Synagogue
community. How could I find out ?" =========>

The Jewish Historical Archive in Warsaw has some Breslau material.
Apparently, it is the part of the archive of the Breslau community which was
not seized in November 1938 by the nazi and was sent after the War to
Warsaw. The Nazi had seized only genealogical material that they thought was
usefull for the "Reichssippenamt". This part was filmed in the winter
1944/45 and is now in the German Federal Archive in Berlin. Copies of it
were made by the Mormons (LDS films 1184379-1184404 and 1271412)

However, the Nazi overlooked some material which would have also interested
the Reichssippenamt. For instance, there is a complete list of the menbers
of the Breslau Jewish community. Apparently, it was some kind of mailing
list. It is organized not in an alphabetical order but by addresses.
It is not dated but I believe that it was written in the late 19 twenties or
early thirties.

There is also "administrative" material which genealogists might find
useful: It goes >from deliberations of the elders which candidate they should
propose to the Prussian authorities to become one of the 160
"Stamm-Nummeranten" (who had the ***right*** to live in Breslau), to
accounts relating to the use of the synagogue for marriages.

Unfortunately, one has to find a German speaking to find the relevant files
because the material is still in the state of 1938 aand has not been indexed.

Reunion of First Cousins After 67 Years [Thanks to JewishGen] #germany

Dear Genners and Siggers,
My late father Leon ROSNER(1903-1999) >from Krakow lost
all his siblings(and their offspring)during WW2: a
brother and 4 sisters. He barely spoke about them and
we never knew their given names or married names.
In June 2004 I found on JRI-PL names of 2 ROSNER
persons(Abraham and Hanna) >from Krakow whose parents
had the same given names as my grandparents.I assumed
that they were my father's siblings. It gave the
sister's married name and I rather quickly found out
that she had a son, Reuven Orschutzer(b.1925 in
Krakow) who survived and lives in Israel.
Last December I checked the Yad Vashem PoTs which went
on the Internet .There were 355 pages of "ROSNER and
Krakow".On page 324 I got a testimony which was filled
in the US in 1980 by Rudolph(Reuven) ROSNER(b. 1920 in
Berlin and returned with his parents to Krakow in
1933).He is the son of Abraham. With the help of the
Genners I found him in Florida.

Rudy ROSNER came today to Jerusalem and I organized a
reunion between him and our other first cousin. They
have not seen each other since 1938!!!! and were sure
that the other perished as well(I was born in 1948
so of course they had no idea about my existence).
The Mayor of Jerusalem, Uri Polanski, who greeted last
year's IAJGS Conference was present at the reunion.
After a year of search I have 2 first cousins!!!
I'll continue the search for the other members of my father's family.
It would not have been possible without the Internet.

opportunity
From: Celia Male <celiamale@yahoo.com>

X-Message-Number: 3

Two days ago, I spoke to Janette Plumridge at the Dept
of Trade and Industry, UK who told me that there are
only two months left to claim under the compensation
scheme described below* [see Footnote].

Claims cover Germany [inc Austria], Czechoslovakia,
Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Balkan States, Poland,
Yugoslavia, Japan and other countries too. If you
search under "Other countries", you may find
surprising things. I looked for AUERBACH [a lucky-dip
choice after the request for information on AUERBACH
of Bohemia on our SIG recently!] and found Philippe
from Belgium is owed 43 pounds by the British Govt!
The original deadline was extended but the scheme will
now be wound up. There were abt 30,000 cases listed
and since this scheme started in 1999 abt 1,200 claims
were dealt with. We do not have the figures of claims
which were settled before that - probably the majority
of large claims.

I have checked the website with random names and
locations and find, that for those names I have
chosen, the amounts outstanding are very small. It may
still be worthwhile claiming so as to obtain
information on the family, which might otherwise be
lost.

To use the website: http://www.enemyproperty.gov.uk/

1. First choose a country on the left of the homepage

2. Then choose Documents and Reports
3. When this emerges go to "NEXT" which is listed at
end of the text
4. Enter a name - try various spellings; The site will
pick out letter sequences appearing in a longer name
eg: try Stern and you will find Lichtenstern and
Sternberg in Czechoslovakia.

It is very important to enter the name for a number of
countries including "other countries" in case the
assets were not in the country you thought they were.
I tried a search with the letter sequence Weis,
Czechoslovakia and found:

WEIS Francis (dec'd) and Dr Edith
Address given on website but withheld >from our website
for privacy reasons
Value of Assets Seized
WEISSENSTEIN Fritz
Address Prague, Protectorate
Value of Assets Seized

There are others too with addresses.

So the site is of genealogical importance too as it is
another database we can use to track people and
hopefully retrieve some of their confiscated savings,
if we are related.

A name I am interested in: WOTTITZ turns up
unexpectedly in Leipzig; so that is another lead.

I also searched for DUSCHNITZ and found them in
Romania [Timisoara] and Czechoslovakia. In
Czechoslovakia, I have found JOKL, PICK, KOHN and many
others. I think it is best to search with common
syllables and letter sequences such as "stern" "klein"
"eund" "berg" "mann" "ach" "stein" "ein" "sch" "itz"
"pop" etc.

Extend the letter sequences to reduce the number of
hits. This method is useful if you are not sure of the
exact spelling of a name.

This website connects to all the claims and gives
details of the amounts outstanding. Contact names with
email, terrestrial address, tel and fax numbers are

Justin Levy <levyduffy@...>

Hello Folks,
Thank you for the responses. We all agree that Levin PINCUS was David LEVY's
brother-in-law; certainly not his brother.
Someone has made the intriguing suggestion that 'Levi Bruder' is an indication of
a levirate marriage, i.e. Levin PINCUS married his brother's childless widow.

Levin's wife, Hanna (nee MATTHIS), does appear to have been unable to have
children. The childless pair were nearly 60 years old when they applied to adopt
the young Matthias.

The only other explanation that I can think of is that 'Levi Bruder' meant 'fellow
Levi', i.e. Levin was stating that he too was a Levite. Anymore ideas?

This photograph, http://www.lordbalto.com/images/Photographs.htm, is of a
wedding picnic taken in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia in 1917. Note the two
blond haired girls in the front row. I also had an uncle, not born at the time
of this photo, who had blond hair as a child. Note that the Dnieper River was
not only a stop on the Silk Road (at Kiev) but also the route by which the
Vikings traveled to the Middle East. So there are many genetic strains in this
region of the world and no one will argue that the Jews were so isolated that
there was no intermarriage at all with the local Ukrainians, who often have
blond hair and other "fair" features. This is only one avenue of many by which
various features were added to the Jewish gene pool.
