Re: Town or village of Piotrkow

There is a huge open pit coal mine near Piotrkow Trybunalski where one of my ancestral towns, Kucow, and several other towns used to exist. It's known as the Belchatow Coal Mine. Perhaps your town is among the vanished towns and might be found on a 19th century map.

Jacob Heisler
Hi everyone,
my ggg-grandfather Nathan MINKOWITZ (c. 1848-1917) worked as a butcher in the Lower East Side from the mid-1890s to about 1910 and had a shop on 126 Monroe St. I know his store was involved in the 1902 Kosher Meat Strike (the Forward translated am article from the strike that mentioned a butcher shop at 126 Monroe), but not what exactly happened to him and his store during the strike. What I'm wondering is if it's possible for me to locate any official NYC records about Nathan and his butcher shop, like a butchers license or something related to his shop. And if such documentation exists, would it be possible to order a copy sent to me or would I have to wait for COVID to end and visit some NYC office in person? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. From, Jacob Heisler Norwalk, CT

Does anyone recognize the family in this photograph

I believe this is a photograph of my grandmothers brother and his family. She was Shayneh Bers (Berz Beares) born in Rokiskis 1881. Her father was Yisrael Eedel. She moved to South Africa and married Israel Salmenson (?Schneerson) in 1909. The photograph can be viewed on viewmate at the following:

Bensabat family Lisbon Portugal.
#general
sansilva729@...
Hello all,
I am doing the Geneology Tree of a small town in Portugal (Girabolhos, Seia). A lady named Amilia (Amelia) Annette Bensabat (daughter of Jacob Bensabat and Emma Bensabat of Lisbon) ends up settling in Girabolhos with her husband Augusto Henriques Ferraz (born in Girabolhos, Seia) and having children there. All of these children are shown as illegitimate children in their Catholic Baptisms, since the parents were never married in the Catholic Church. I am to believe that they were married in Lisbon, (hoping that there was a ketubah somewhere) at some point before moving to Girabolhos. All of the children were baptized as adults in order to marry in the Catholic Church. I was looking for a place where I can find information about the Bensabat family from Lisbon, Portugal. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Augusto Henriques Ferraz (+/-1857) Amilia Annette Bensabat (no information) Children are: * Dinah Regina (Dec 2, 1900) * Antonio Salvador (Aug 24, 1902)
* Levy Bensabat (Nov 5, 1907)
* Gabriel (Jan 4, 1910)
* Dario Augusto (May 2, 1913)
* Irene Edwiges (Mar 22, 1917)

Re: Town or village of Piotrkow

Alexander Sharon
Carin,
Name of the village "Naza" doesn't sound Polish or Slavic. Just in case, I've checked all the localities names in Piotrkow Trybunalski and Piotrkow Kujawski regions and found nothing even similar. It helps sometime if you can provide researched names and a copy of the naturalization page where town name is shown. Best Alexander Sharon

Elizabeth Scofield
NEINKEN parents (Lipmann & Sara) and children (who identified their birthplace as Riga) emigrated to U.S. about 1893. Although there are possible records of this family in Lithuania, I find no other evidence of the NEINKEN name anyplace. Where is the rest of the family--under other names or countries?

Help needed finding Mollie Schiff's immigration papers
#records
SUE KAHN
Mollie Schiff Epstein was born around 1880 according to censuses. She was always known as Mollie, but I discovered that her headstone had the name Chiyene Malka. As far as I know the family was from Slutsk. Mollie's father Zalman Schiff had three wives. Mollie was from the second wife and had a brother Benjamin (Barnett) and a sister Dina (Lena/Dine). I have been searching for immigration and naturalization papers for Mollie using Malka, Mollie, and Chienne with varying spellings of these names. I located an 1899 the manifest with Feigle, Zalman's third wife Dina, Hene (Anna), Hirsch (Harry) and Chaje (Ida). Anna, Harry & Ida were from the third wife. In the 1900 census Chienne Malka was listed as Mollie. Is it likely that the ship manifest would have been Chiyene or Malka or can't one say? Could anyone help me find any immigration papers on Mollie? Although the 1900 census indicated she came in 1890 I cannot find this. I found a Chienne Schiff who immigrated in 1895, but it said her residence was Schweksne, Russland, not Slutsk. Could the family have started in Schweksne? Many questions. Any ideas?

Fritz BUKOFZER, film producer- Paris > Switzerland
#france
David Selig
Hi to all who have helped, and Happy(ier) New Year. They moved to sth of France in 1940 and married in Toulouse, in 1940. After the war they applied for French nationailty, were told in 1949 that they had to wait another four years at least (to "Assimilate" more completely). IN 1955 it was granted, but at the mlast moment stopped for three months, following an anonymous denunciation letter sent to the police. This was quickly debunked, and it came trhough early 1956. Fritz died in Luzern, 1958. Marta lived in paris until 1970, when she moved finally to Melbourne. I still have to collate much information from these amazing files, and I am going to post a general new topic re, finding your way around them - quite a labyrinth, in very complex French archives.
Best to you all, David SELIG, Paris
