Victoria, BC Records, KIRCHHEIMER #general

Hanna K. Grossman <hannakg@...>

My great uncle Gustav KIRCHHEIMER born in Baden 1859, traveled >from England to
Victoria, BC in 1897 with young 2nd wife and 2 small children. A 3rd child was
born to the couple in Victoria in 1901. He was naturalized in 1901 or 1902.

I have found Gustav in city directories through about 1920, know he traveled back
and forth to Europe several times during this period, and that he died I Nice,
France in 1934. At that time he was accompanied by his divorced first wife.

I have not found any trace of the 2nd wife or the 3 children . They are not
recorded as dying or getting married in BC, nor, as far as I can tell, as entering
the US, nor do they show up on US censuses .

I would appreciate any suggestions of Victoria or BC records on which they might
appear (schools, hospitals, courts, etc.) and how to access those, particularly
from a distance. If there are useful sounding resources, which cannot be accessed
from a distance, I would consider hiring someone to search those data bases.
The information which I have was largely provided by Jewishgen volunteers and I
remain grateful, but unsatisfied. I will be happy to provide more details(ie the
names and birth dates of the wife and children) to anyone who is interested.

MALAMUD/Warsaw #general

I am trying to locate siblings of Israel MALAMUD born in Varsovia (Warsaw Poland).
Israel went to Palestine at the age of about 19 and at the age of 21 immigrated to
the US to a cousin, Chiam SCHAFFER, in Atlanta, Georgia. He had a brother, David
(Doddie) who he kept in touch with up till the 1960's.
One of Israel's brother's(either David or Abraham) lived in Tashkent.
Israel's parents were Labe and Sura SCHLAFFER Malamud. His siblings would have
been born >from about 1893 to about 1910. His sisters were Tsepa and Rachel. I
heard that Rachel also came to the US, but I haven't been able to find her. This
family is one big mystery to me. I am eager to find them, but I'm stumped!
Thanks for any suggestions.

My Grandmother GRUNFELD from Leles #general

Grü der film

Dear fellow being.

I am writing to you hoping you know something about my grandmother whom we never
have known. Maybe you know someone that can help me.

My name is Nina F. GRUNFELD. I am a 38 year old filmmaker. Right now I am making a
TV documentary about my father Berthold GRUNFELD. He is a professor of social
medicine at the university of Oslo, and is an active participant in the media and
in public debates.

Berthold was born in Bratislava, Slovakia in 1932. He never grew up with his
mother, but was raised by the catholic shames Jan MOLNAR. In 1939 Berthold was
sent to Norway with a kinder transport. He escaped the Norwegian Nazis by fleeing
to Sweden. After the war he came back to Oslo, married my mother and had three
children.

Last September my father and I went back to Bratislava. In the state archive we
found information about my grandmother. Unfortunately she had a sad life, and was
accused of prostitution in 1939 and thrown out of Slovakia in 1941. We still don't
know what happened to her.

This is what we know.
1. Her name is: Bedriska GRUNFELDOV. In the records he is also called Frida and
Friderika. I am not sure if GRUNFELD is her maiden name or not. It could even be
a name she had taken, for some reason.
2. She was born on the 3rd of September 1908. In some papers she is registered as
born on the 9th of March 1908. They obviously have swapped the day and the month.
3. She claims she comes >from Leles, close to velke Kapusany, in the south east of
Slovakia. This region was Hungarian during the 2. World War.
4. Her fathers name was Moric (Miklosa) GRUNFELD. I don't know when he was born
but he was alive in 1939.
5. Her mothers name was Helena SCHVARCOV (SCHWARZOV/SCHWARZOVEJ). She died before
1939.
6. She claims she had 4 brothers and 4 sisters. I don't know the name of any of
them. Maybe some of them survived the war?
7. She gave birth to my father Berthold GRUNFELD in Bratislava on the 22nd. of
January 1932. I don't think she was married.

It seams she lived in Prague between 1932 and 1939, working as a waitress,
cashier etc. In 1939 she was thrown out of Checkia. She applied for residence in
Bratislava in 1939, but they defined her as Hungarian. She probably left
Bratislava in 1940, at least no later than 1942. Maybe she went to Hungary, or to
Leles, Velke Kapusany?

If you have ever heard about this woman, or someones history you think resembles
to this, please contact me.

Yours sincerely
Nina F. Grunfeld, Oslo, Norway

I am looking for someone to call a possible relative for me in Odessa. I have
made contact with her in the past, and would like to try one more time. She had
given me her e-mail address, but it didn't work. If someone would call her and
get the e-mail address I would be most grateful. If you can help me, please
respond privately and I will give you her telephone number. She only speaks
Russian-no English. I also have a couple of questions I would like answered. It
makes sense that she and I are related, but I just can't put it all together yet.!
Thanks in advance.

HIRSHHORN from Iasi-any spelling OK #romania

,

Hi,
I am researching my ggrandparents, Berel and Brune Zlate Hirshhorn >from Iasi
Romania. I have recently learned that my ggrandfather arrived in NY in 1884
(with his last name spelled Hirschersohn) on the State of Pennsylvania. His age
is given as 35,although on his marriage certificate he claims to have been
born in 1852. His occupation is miller.
He is definatly travelling with 2 other people (and possibly 3). The first
is an N. Hirschersohn who is 30 and a merchant. The next is listed as Hirsh
Horn and is a clerk. He is 16. The next person that is listed and, given what
they did to the 16 year olds name, that I think may also be part of the family
is Marcus (which would be Marcu in Romanian) Josef. His age is listed as 42.
He too is listed as a merchant.
Marcu (Mordechi )was the name of Berl's father.
Brune came on the Spain in 1886 with her children Gittel (Gussie) Marcu (Max-
my grandfather) and Sarah. The family originally settled on the Lower East
side. Brune and Berl had 2 more children Minne and Ettie. Eventually the
family settled in Brooklyn, where I have located them on all censuses except the
1900. On each census the name Hirshhorn was spelled differently!
I have checked the JGFF and have emailed some people that I thought might be
"family". I'm hoping that there's someone out, other than people who have
registered on JGFF, that recognize some of the details I have given as part of
their family history.
