I would like to draw the attention of those members of this SIG, who live in
or near London, to the showing, on March 30, at the National Film Theatre, of Watermarks, the film about the Jewish sports club Hakoah, Vienna, in the 1930s. After the film there will be a question and answer session with Yaron Zilberman, the director of Watermarks, and with Ann-Marie Pisker, one of the swimmers of Hakoah, who features in the film. This film is being shown as part of the New Films >from Israel season. Searching ROSINKO family of Daugavpils, and when they became ROSEN
#general
Lois Rosen
Searching information on Abraham and Yetta ROSINKO >from Daugavpils.
They had 8 children. Son Leib, born 1892, left for NYC about 1913. He played the violin. He became Louis Rosen. The other children were Feiga -> US , Harry-> US, Tamara-> England, Channa and Rachel-> Germany, Schmuel->???, and another brother->???. I can find no records for ROSINKO on Ellis Island site. Name change usually came after arrival in US, but could Leib ROSINKO have become Louis ROSEN before departure? He is listed on his original internal travel document as Bin-Leib Abramov ROZINKO. Any insight or family ties? Lois Rosen La Canada, CA logilby@mac.com

I am searching for surname of my rabbinical family >from Raseiniai.
Have been told they were mentioned in a book on Latvian Rabbis by Levi Ovchinsky in 1908, in Hebrew, and 1929 in Yiddish, Only given names are listed. My gg grandmother, Drana, {Drane] was born [c] 1812 in Raseiniai according to 1858 revision list. She was the daughter of Meshulem Zalmen ben Aryey. Two of her brothers were Movsha Itsyk and Aaron [Artshik]. I don't have dates of birth for them but have found in 1816 Raseiniai revision list a family of ROZEMBERG'S as follows: Head of house was Leyba [ which could be Aryey Leib] His father is listed as Eliezer in Directories. sons -Zelman and Itsyk. children of Zelman are Movsha Itsyk, Shakhna Srol, Gita, and Ester. Son of Itsyk was Liutka. Daughter in law is Brayna. As no dates are given I can't be sure if this Movsha Itsyk is an older brother of Drana Movsha Itsyk served as rabbi in Goldigen and other areas of Latvia. His brother Aaron [ Artshik] was a dayan [judge] in Tukkum as well as Kovno.. He died about 1875. Have found an Esther Rosenberg age 66 in 1874 living in Bauska, and a Guta [Gita] in town of Piltene, both being in Latvia. am trying to determine if this could have been my family. I assume there will be records in Riga if I have a surname, as I was able to find the information of Drane who married Gaon Rabbi Movhsa Lerenblatt also >from Raseiniai. The latter couple moved to Courland in 1830. Annette Young Westminster, Calif. My sense is that after 1868 many of the Vital Records were written in Cyrillic Russian. I am sending you a sample >from page >from JewishGen that indicates probability of it being in Russian: This is a link to that page: http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/Lodz/LDS.htm Burt Hecht Sacramento Searching: ERLICH: Rzgow, (near Piotrkow) Good luck in your search. Below is an English translation of "Akta 173," an 1874 Lodz birth record. To see the original record, in Russian, click here. 1874 Birth Record of Josek Dawid Fajersztajn, son of Lewek Fajersztajn and Hany Lipka 173. It occurred in the office of the clerk of civil affairs at the town of Lodz in the year one thousand eight hundred seventy-four on the fourth of June at eight o'clock in the morning, appeared Lewek Fajersztajn, age twenty-two, residing in the town of Mishki. There also appeared Markus Elberger, age fifty-five, and Bierka Hedlish, age forty, residents of the place. They brought a male newborn claiming he was born on the first of June of this year at two o'clock in the afternoon >from his wedded wife Hany, from the house of Lipkow, age twenty. They named the male newborn Josek Dawid. It was signed by the attendants. M Elberger B Hedlish

Lututow is in Poland, there is a chance that it was in German in this period, but if it is in Lodz area, it should be Russian). We've received some archive documents (through JRI) >from the Lodz area, dated by the end of 19th century, written in Russian with unusual handwriting. We can try to read and translate them if you want.
