Searching Blumenberg relative
#galicia
Leslie Weinberg <lbw50@...>
My grandfather had a nephew who managed to get out of Poland in the
late 30s and get to Israel. He was located there in 1945 but there was never any contact between him and our family here in the U.S. I have only recently discovered that his last name is Blumenberg, son of Hene and Jonas Blumenberg, >from Tyczyn, Poland. He would probably be in his early eighties today, if he is living, and he may have left Israel for somewhere in Europe after the end of the War. If anyone knows anything about this "unknown" Blumenberg and/or his family, please email me privately. We are very anxious to find him. His grandparents' names were Schewa (Iram) Eisen and Chaim Eisen, his great-grandparents were Esther and Moses Iram. Leslie Weinberg Searching Iram, Reiss, November, Eisen, Danskoy.

Re: 1912 Galicia Telephone Directory Guide and Index
#galicia
Alexander Sharon
Dear Galitzyners,
I have received few inquiries of the general nature and about the listings details. 1. Q To view directory sheets do I click RDF? Is that similar to PDF? A. After opening the link, under the "Publication" click on "content" and in a new window click on " Browse publication". 2. Q. What is the information listed just below the town name? A. This is information related to the communication facilities available in this town. For example in town Kolomyja (Kolomea) the following data is displayed: a) C.k. centralne biuro telefoniczne - w c.k. Urzedzie pocztowo telegraficznym Kolomyja 1 His Royal Majesty (HRM) Phone exchange (Central) located in HRM post office and telegraph offices Kolomyja 1. b) C.k.publiczna mownica w c.k. Urzedzie pocztowo telegraficznym Kolomyja 1 HRM public telephone located in HRM post office and telegraph offices Kolomyja 1. c) Abonenci List of subscribers Please note that some towns have all three communication facilities (Phone exchange, post office and telegraph), but some have only one, two or nothing at all, as it is the case of query #3. 3. Q. Why there are no names listed for town Rozwadow? A. Note under town Rozwadow (page 179) refers to town Mikolajow n(ad) Dniestrem. BTW, Rozwadow had no communication facilities listed also in 1929 Directory (still listed in Mikolajow) with only one difference that phone was now availble in Piaseczna near Zydaczow. ------------------------------------------------------ Hidden names It appers that there are many surnames not listed directly in the Directory but there are still there. For example: Maurycy Beschloss was pharmacy owner in town Biala (currently known as Bielsko-Biala). His name is listed in 1929 Business Directory in Krakow Province under pharmacies (Apteki) in Lipnik (Biala suburb), and I knew for xertain that he owned the pharmacy prior to WWI in the same location in Lipnik. To my surprise I could not locate his name listed in Biala. But when I looked in Biala listing under the title: Apteka "pod Aniolem" (Pharmacy "Under the Angel") tel #358, it lists next to the pharmacy also his name: Beschloss Maurycy, Biala-Lipnik, Hauptstrasse 54 and in addition to the pharmacy street address it provides also his home address as Biala, Ober-Kirchstrasse 3. -------------- IMHO it would be prudent to establish a database for all the clearly visible and hidden names (cross referenced to the business names where it is applicable). I was interested to see the information about the online directory.
I found the following in the section for the town of Grybow. "Zorn, Goldberger i Kohn "a) kancelarya w Grybowie ul. Kodejowa 1. 909 "b) tartak parowy w. Kaklowej" Could anybody help us with a translation or explanation of this entry ? The a in Kaklowej has an accent underneath. We think that my wife's grandfather Abraham Zorn owned a sawmill in Kaklowe a small village near to Grybow. Donald Hurd, Newfoundland, Canada.
