Bessie ROTHSTEIN from Los Angeles
#poland
Marty Meyers <meyers01@...>
I looking for information on a Bessie ROTHSTEIN who died in Los Angeles
on 4/30/1952. Her maiden name was BORDOWITZ and it is possible that it was not her maiden name but her married name >from a prior marriage. My grandmother was born Rose (Ruchel) BORDOWITZ in Przasnysz. I have two questions: 1. Is anyone out there familiar with this Bessie ROTJSTEIN? if so, please contact me privately 2. I found this information on ancestry.com in the California Death Index (1940-1997) and there is an option to order the original death record. Does anyone know if there is much additional information likely to be contained in the original record, such as parents, next-of-kin, location of burial? Thank, Marty Meyers <meyers01@comcast.net> MODERATOR'S NOTE: Please respond privately.

Looking for Steins from Bialystok
#poland
Greg Stone <gstone@...>
I haven't had any luck so far finding ANY Steins in Bialystok. The lack of
success so far has me thinking that there were few Steins there and so, when I do find them, they are more likely to be relatives. In going through "Bialystok", a 1951 book containing 1200 pictures, I may have found some Stein Bialystokers in the United States. On page 182, Morris Stein is noted as a leader of "AHAVATH ACHIM", as an officer and/or director of the Bialystoker Center and as having died in 1943. On page 227, 236 & 237 there are pictures of Mary Stein who was involved in the Ladies Aid Society and the Home for the Aged. I hit the jackpot on page 293 in a picture labeled "Four Generations of Landsleit" are Mrs. Gelman (great grandmother), Samuel Stein (grandfather), Morris E. Stone (father?? Not labeled), and Sharon Ann Stein (great grandchild). Does anyone have information on this family? If the paternal side comes from Bialystok they may well be relatives. Thanks. Greg Stone St. Louis, Missouri, USA

#lithuania
Oscar Fridman <oscarf@...>
My Granny Chaya Ziv (born 1912 )>from Ariogala (actually from
Betygola) survived the world war 2 and escaped the massacre in Ariogala. Her parents Tevyia and Chasia and some of her brothers and sisters died in that action (we know the names Laybe and Frida ) She was a witness of this action and about 1962 she testified about it in a trial conducted against Lithuanian who was involved. Then she made Alia to Israel in 1974 and asked to give again testimony about this event. I tried to find her testimony in YAD VASHEM but didn't find a thing Does anyone know any information about any testament >from the massacre in Ariogala? I will be more then thankful for more information about the Ziv family from Ariogala and/ or any information about Betygola. Thanks in advance Oscar Friedman oscarf@netvision.net.il
