Last month, the Yizkor Book Project, saw important additions to many
of our ongoing projects, some of which have been on a "low flame" for
quite some time. For myself, this is a very encouraging sign and am
hopeful that this trend will continue in months to come.

In what has become a regular part of my monthly reports, I am pleased,
once again, to let you know that a further Yizkor Book has been
completely translated. The book this time, is the Tovste, Ukraine book
- the "Memorial book of Tluste" which has been deftly coordinated by
Douglas Hykle and who, with the assistance a number of skilled
volunteer and professional translators, succeeded in achieving this
lofty goal. Many thanks to Doug and all those involved in this effort.

The timely completion of this translation comes just before the IAJGS
conference in Warsaw and I do wish all the participants a very
memorable, and enlightening time there. As always, we have a Yizkor
Book Birds of a Feather meeting which will be lead this year by Max
Heffler who has been very active in our project for numerous years. I
join with Max in inviting you to this meeting where you can learn more
about what we're doing and meet those already active in the YB
project.

Another very timely addition to the Yizkor Book Project, to be exact
to the Yizkor Books in Print Project, is the publishing of the "We
Remember Lest the World Forget" book, containing unique and moving
personal testimonies of Minsk Ghetto survivors. Thanks, as always, to
Joel Alpert and his dedicated and amazing team of volunteers for all
the work they do in this project. Joel has also informed me that the
translation into English of the Brody, Ukraine Yizkor book will be
made available to the public in the very near future, which is also
great news. For details of the 70 odd books that are already
available, please see the link to this project at the end of this
report.

The Yizkor Book Project is only able to achieve what it does through
the tireless assistance of a great number of volunteers who have a
special place in their hearts, like myself, for this endeavor.
Although we have many volunteers, we are still "greedy" for more to
help advance the myriad of projects we have running. For instance, we
are always on the lookout for editing help, especially people with
knowledge of Hebrew and/or Yiddish.

We are also currently looking for a volunteer who can transcribe
Cyrillic into English so that we can make a list of martyrs from
Vitebsk, Belarus available in the YB project. If the above fields of
expertise suit you to a tee and you are able to dedicate some time to
our project, I would be pleased to hear >from you.

As one of the aims of the Yizkor Book Project is to make the material
they contain freely available to a wide as possible audience, I was
pleased to receive the complete translation into Polish of the Sierpc,
Poland Yizkor Book which was kindly presented to us by Avraham Nanes.
This translation, together with the many others we have online in
languages other than English, is linked in the "Other Languages"
section in our Translations Index page - the link to which, is
provided at the end of this report.

And now for details of all the updates and additions that were carried

Dear GerSIG

There are GerSIG people everywhere! we've given out lots of GerSIG
ribbons. If you haven't collected yours yet, there is still time.

We had lots of callers at our GerSIG table in the share fair today,
and Roger Alex and I spoke to countless people, not all of them
current GerSIG members. We hope they soon will be. It was great to
be able to catch up with lots of people we already know.

The GerSIG interest programming is on Tuesday, so I expect that
tomorrow we will be hanging about outside in the networking area.
Come over to say hello. We are the ones huddled over laptops and sat
near the power sockets!

Today we were also in data acquisition mode. We are delighted to say
we have been getting donations of DVDs and thumb drives full of
wonderful GerSIG data and records. If you have data that you would
like to give GerSIG, we are getting more and more opportunities to add
information and new records in to the All Germany Database, and there
will be further active projects announced very soon. Please contact
me off list to let me know what data you may have that you might
consider donating to GerSIG.

Last month, the Yizkor Book Project, saw important additions to many
of our ongoing projects, some of which have been on a "low flame" for
quite some time. For myself, this is a very encouraging sign and am
hopeful that this trend will continue in months to come.

In what has become a regular part of my monthly reports, I am pleased,
once again, to let you know that a further Yizkor Book has been
completely translated. The book this time, is the Tovste, Ukraine book
- the "Memorial book of Tluste" which has been deftly coordinated by
Douglas Hykle and who, with the assistance a number of skilled
volunteer and professional translators, succeeded in achieving this
lofty goal. Many thanks to Doug and all those involved in this effort.

The timely completion of this translation comes just before the IAJGS
conference in Warsaw and I do wish all the participants a very
memorable, and enlightening time there. As always, we have a Yizkor
Book Birds of a Feather meeting which will be lead this year by Max
Heffler who has been very active in our project for numerous years. I
join with Max in inviting you to this meeting where you can learn more
about what we're doing and meet those already active in the YB
project.

Another very timely addition to the Yizkor Book Project, to be exact
to the Yizkor Books in Print Project, is the publishing of the "We
Remember Lest the World Forget" book, containing unique and moving
personal testimonies of Minsk Ghetto survivors. Thanks, as always, to
Joel Alpert and his dedicated and amazing team of volunteers for all
the work they do in this project. Joel has also informed me that the
translation into English of the Brody, Ukraine Yizkor book will be
made available to the public in the very near future, which is also
great news. For details of the 70 odd books that are already
available, please see the link to this project at the end of this
report.

The Yizkor Book Project is only able to achieve what it does through
the tireless assistance of a great number of volunteers who have a
special place in their hearts, like myself, for this endeavor.
Although we have many volunteers, we are still "greedy" for more to
help advance the myriad of projects we have running. For instance, we
are always on the lookout for editing help, especially people with
knowledge of Hebrew and/or Yiddish.

We are also currently looking for a volunteer who can transcribe
Cyrillic into English so that we can make a list of martyrs from
Vitebsk, Belarus available in the YB project. If the above fields of
expertise suit you to a tee and you are able to dedicate some time to
our project, I would be pleased to hear >from you.

As one of the aims of the Yizkor Book Project is to make the material
they contain freely available to a wide as possible audience, I was
pleased to receive the complete translation into Polish of the Sierpc,
Poland Yizkor Book which was kindly presented to us by Avraham Nanes.
This translation, together with the many others we have online in
languages other than English, is linked in the "Other Languages"
section in our Translations Index page - the link to which, is
provided at the end of this report.

And now for details of all the updates and additions that were carried

Hello Everyone,

I am researching my Great Great Grandfather and mother on my mother's
side of the family. Currently hung up on Benjamin and Miriam Weiner
who came >from Podolsk/Zhitomir/Getoma, Ukraine.

I found Noach/Benjamin's passenger manifest list and naturalization
paperwork once he landed here in the states. He came in through Philly
and settled in Atlantic City, NJ. His wife Miriam came in 2 years
later with the kids Leon and Lewis. I was hoping if I could find
Miriam's passenger manifest it might point towards more clues in the
Ukraine.

Unfortunately I am having trouble searching for them in Ukraine and
Jewish Gen. I have tried the JRI Poland database because it has a
search for Volhynia but no luck. Do you guys have any other
suggestions on configurations of the given names and surnames?

Hi David,

Its hard to tell >from the Ancestry relationship estimate exactly what is
going on but an extremely high probability and that much shared DNA is
not a false positive. You two are definitely cousins of some kind. If
you can convince the match to upload to Gedmatch you will be able to get
a better estimate of the relationship by looking at the size of the
individual segments (larger sizes will indicate closer relationships) and
see if there are a lot of small segments (indicates endogamy). A 4th
cousin would share a 3x great grandparent so you may be looking at
roughly 150 years ago in the 1860s. Can you find any common locations
between your matches ancestors and yours at that time? If so, you might
be able to infer who the common ancestors are even if their surnames are
different. Many Jews took different surnames even among the same family,
some after the mother, some after the father, some made up new ones.
Another course is to look at the family trees of "shared" matches. Are
there any names and locations that connect to either your or your
match's tree? If so, that may be a line of further research.

attended the Jewish Community Centre of Hyde Park, Blackstone Avenue,
Chicago .His business card reads : Emil Galliner watch repairer and
jewellery specialist in cuckoo clocks, phone number Museum 4-****. I
have photos of their English Class Parties. The Galliners left Chicago
in 1951 to join their daughter and her family in Windhoek, Namibia .
