My great-great grandfather KLEPFISZ from Nemirov #belarus

Sarah Lasry <SrhLsr@...>

One of my family's surnames that I am researching, is KLEPFISZ.
My great-great grandfather, Rabbi Aharon Shlomo Zalman KLEPFISZ, Of Blessed Memory,
was the rabbi of both towns of Goworowo and Wizna, in Poland.
According to the Goworowo Yizkor book, my great-great grandfather was born in
Nemirov, in Brisk d'Lita.

The question to which I addressed myself is: where is Nemirov ?
A cousin of mine, who is likewise interested in finding the whereabouts of Nemirov
and has been helping me "sleuth" and we found out that:

-It is 26.5 miles WNW of Brest-Litovsk (Brisk D'Lita).

However,we were warned to be careful because there are several other listings for
Nemirov both in Poland and Belarus, but they are far >from Brest-Litovsk
Brisk D'Lita). Nemirov, Poland and Terespol, Poland and Brest-Litovsk
(sometimes Poland and sometimes Russia) were only about 26.5 miles apart.
Further that Brest was always a much larger town than Nemirov or Terespol.
Brest had the major hospital in the region and when people >from Nemirov or Terespol
got sick, they traveled to the hospital and doctors in Brest.

Also Brest was the major learning, business and rail road center of the region.
Nemirov was 26 miles >from Brisk, but Brisk was the big town/city in the area.

Based on the info >from the Yizkor book "born in Nemirov, in Brisk d'Lita", can we
assume that we are talking about this Nemirov (not another one)?

- It was suggested that perhaps Nemirov belonged to the Siedlice province in
Lublin district.....

According to www.jewishencyclopedia.com:

-Town in the government of Podolia, Russian Poland.

According to http://motlc.wiesenthal.com/text/x17/xm1701.html:

-A town in Vinnitsa oblast, Ukrainian SSR .

According to Where Once We Walked, Nemirov was in Ukraine, near Lvov;

You can see that there are different opinions being presented.
Are these different Nemirovs or the same town in different times, and therefore
under different geographical boundaries?

Also, a search result for the Russian Jewish Encyclopedia database on
http://www.jewishgen.org/Belarus/rje_k.htm shows :

KLEPFISH Shmuel-Zanvel 1820 Nemirovo, Grodno 1902 Warsaw Rabbi
Rabbi Shmue-l Zanvel KLEPFISZ, Ob"m , was a brother to my great-great grandfather.
According to this search result, he was born in Nemirov, as was his brother, and
Nemirovo was in Grodno, at the time.

Grodno is currently in Belarus, on the border with Poland. However, between WWI
and WWII it was part of Poland.

Where is Nemirov located? Poland? Belarus?

Please help with this.

Thank you very much!!!

Samuel Bilansky #ukraine

Marc L. Greenberg <marek4@...>

Dear all,
My great uncle Samuel Bilansky was a noted
Yiddishist and Hebraic scholar >from Novograd-Volynskij
(Zvil, Zviahel') who emigrated to Detroit in 1922 and
relocated to Los Angeles around 1930. There are a few
words in Hebrew in his otherwise Yiddish obituary that
I would like help to translate; and of equal or
greater importance, I wonder whether anyone knows of
Samuel Bilansky's work and where it may be located.
Has anyone heard of this scholar?

http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/ALL/viewmateview.asp?key=5844

Thanks,
Marc L. Greenberg

This is a right side up correction. I have had part of it translated, but if
anyone else would like to give it a try I would be very happy! Thank you.

ViewMate VM5867 - Abram Moronowicz Birth Record #general

Craig & Lisa Hopp <fivehopps@...>

Hello list,

I have received a birth record that I ordered through JRI-Poland, and I was hoping
to get some assistance with the translation. I had two friends who are native
Russian speakers (one >from Uzbekistan and the other >from Armenia) take a look at
the document so I have come up with a "proposed" interpretation. But, I'd like to
get feedback >from others on this list, particularly regarding the given names
contained in the birth record. I believe this is the birth record for my
gr-grandfather, Abraham MARNOWITZ, or per the document, Abram MORONOWICZ of
Kuczbork, Poland. The document has been uploaded to ViewMate so please see file
VM5867.

This is the translation as I have received it:

It happened in 'Kuchborkov' on the 'fourth (sixteenth) of January one thousand
eight hundred seventy seven at 12:30 PM'. Presented himself [Orthodox Jew] 'Itzik
Moronovich, butcher, 37 years old', living here in 'Kuchborkov', and in the
presence of witnesses, [Orthodox Jews] 'Mochehay Moronovich, shredder, 59 years
old, and Levin ZYG, baker, 60 years old', both living here in the town of
'Kuchborkov'. He showed to us a male baby born here in 'Kuchborkov' on the
'eighth (twentieth) of January one thousand eight hundred seventy five at 8pm'
from his wife 'Yaset Rivka', born 'Grushka, age 30 years old'. During the
circumcision, they gave him the name 'Abram Aktecey'. This document was read to
those present and to the witnesses, and it was signed by us, the witnesses.

Signed,
Coukovcki

Witness,
Levin Zyg
M. Moronovich

In order to make the document fall under the 500K size restriction, I had to crop
out the signatures. Please reply to me privately. Any replies will be so greatly
appreciated.
