Yearly NADWORNY inquiry #general

ac <anitac47@...>

I am searching (eternally_ for NADWORNY (Odessa) descendents. I have a
great deal of information but of course there are still gaping holes:

The following are all Odessa marriages that I know of for my family:
Genya-Ruchlya (b. 1891) m. Beniamin Duvidovich ODESSKY (b.1887) 1911
(Lipovets)

Mariam m. (b. 1892-4?)Shulim Chaimovich NEPOM(N)YATSHY (Voznesensk) 1911.
(His brotheris Nusim Chaimov married to Rebecca. They had a son, Shlomo
(year?))

Ruchel (b.1899) married Chima-Pinchas Moishe-Z? YUFA (1891) in 1916

Menya (b. 1901 ) m. Falik FLEISHER (1896) in 1920

Leah Chaimovna (1883) m. Srul Avrumovich BENDERSKY (b.1879 Ladyzhin) 1903

Rivke Chaimovna b. 1879 m. Berko Avrumovich FURMAN 1901

I was told by the Brazilian branch of my family that their father came over
(1908) to live with a sister and her husband who had emigrated to
Argentina. He later moved to Argentina. I cannot determine who that sister
was -- and I've searched the cemetery indices, death certificates, CEMLA,
etc., online phonebooks, etc. There is only one sister, Sosya (Sofia)
whose marriage info I don't have and, in Argentina, there is a Sofia
NADWORNY de PEKER buried and I have her death certificate but it is not a
clear match.

I have contacted folks on the JGFF with no clear results either.

If any of you have relatives with the above surnames (and the woman's given
name) who went to Argentina about 1906 or so I would be thrilled to hear
from you.

So my conclusion is that when Saul WAHL married Deborah DRUCKER, the

daughter of David RAPA haKohen and Rachel Miriam KATZENELLENBOGEN.
I think that Deborah Glassman has David DRUKER, the father-in-law of
Shaul WAHL (KATZENELLENBOGEN) confused with someone else.

David DRUKER lived in Brisk, not Vienna, Venice, or Prague. Nor was
he a RAPAPORT. There are many sources for the KATZENELLENBOGEN
family which mention him. See Rosenstein's "The Unbroken Chain" and
"Yesh Mankhilin."

"Daat Kedoshim" (page 84) refers to David DRUKER as "Hakatzin
Hanaaleh, MO"H David DRUKER, Parnes U manhig BBrisk DeLita". Note
that "Daat Kedoshim" also gives details of the RAPAPORT family and
does not connect them to David DRUKER.

None support Deborah's theory.

Leah HYAMS (South Carolina > Louisiana > Texas, 1817 - 1891 ) and Judah BENSADON ( Pennsylvania > South Carolina > Louisiana, ca. 1821 - 1852) #usa

Teri Tillman <natzrose@...>

I am trying to trace the descendants of Leah HYAMS (born 1817 in Charleston,
South Carolina), daughter of Henry HYAMS and Judith MYERS, and Judah
BENSADON, son of Jacob BENSADON and Abigail JACOBS. Leah and Judah and their
three daughters were living in New Orleans with Leah's parents at the time
of the 1850 U.S. census. Judah, a well-known stonecutter, died 16 July 1852
and is buried in Dispersed of Judah Cemetery in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Leah and her children were still living in New Orleans at the time of the 1860
census. In 1870 Leah was living in Houston, Texas, with her daughter and
son-in-law, Amanda and Adolph ROBINSON. Leah died in San Antonio, Texas,
05 December 1891, and is buried beside her husband in New Orleans. Their
son, Jacob H., ca. 1851 - 1905, is also buried in Dispersed of Judah Cemetery.
Leah and Judah's daughters were: Amanda, ca. 1843 - aft. 1880, married
Adolph ROBINSON; Maria / May, ca. 1848 - aft. 1870; Catherine / Kate, ca.
1850 - aft. 1880.

Amanda BENSADON and Adolph ROBINSON had four children: Judah, ca. 1866 -
aft. 1900; Rebecca, ca. 1870 - aft. 1880; Harry, ca. 1871 - aft. 1880; and
Walter, ca. 1873 - aft. 1910. Judah ROBINSON was born in Louisiana; the
three ROBINSON daughters were born in Texas. I believe that Rebecca ROBINSON
may have married a Louis H. GILBERT who was born in Nevada ca. 1865.

This Louis and Rebecca were living in Alameda Co., California in 1900; San Mateo
Co., California, in 1910; and Manhattan, New York, in 1930. Louis and
Rebecca had one child, Harold, born abt. 1893 in Oregon, who married Anita
from Canada ca. 1920. He died 1920 - 1930, leaving behind three young
children, Anita, Harold, Jr., and Millicent, in addition to his widow.
I would appreciate hearing >from anyone with knowledge of these families.
I am particularly interested in learning when and where Amanda BENSADON
ROBINSON died and whether or not her daughter, Rebecca, married a Louis
H. GILBERT who was born in Nevada ca. 1865 and was living in Manhattan in 1930.
Thank you.

Searching WESTENZWEIG in USA #general

Sylvia Kaye <sylk@...>

Dear Group,

Is there anyone out there who knows anything about a Harry or Benjamin
WESTENZWEIG.

from various US sources I've discovered the following:
Harry married Ester DRUKER (both immigrated to the US around 1907)
in NY approx. 1917/18.

Ester (b. approx. 1897, died 1982) & Harry (b.aprox 1896) were
living in NY in 1920 and 1930, and had at least 2 children (Benjamin, b. 1918,
Yetta, b.1920).

Ester's mother (Becki/Golda/Manie) lived with them in 1920, but not
in 1930 (if she is who I think she is, then she died in a fire between
those two dates).

Benjamin died in 2003.

If any of the above is familiar to you, please contact me.
I believe that Benjamin was my father-in-law's first cousin.
Esther and her sister, Yetta, lost contact after their mother died.

Thank you for any help you can offer!

And may we all have a happy and peaceful Pesach.

Alsace Lorraine?!? #usa

Judy Landauer <geniegal@...>

Dear List,
I need some advice on my LANDAUER line. I have been working on this
line for several years and was able to trace my line >from Canton,
Fulton Co., Illinois, USA, to the town of Gerabronn, Wurtemburg,
Germany, but recently a great aunt says that her father told her the
family was >from Alsace Lorraine! My mother in law said the same thing
but all the information I have been able to find says Gerabronn.

For example:

My husband's gggrandfather, Moses LANDAUER, emigrated, he says in the
federal census, in 1854. The Moses LANDAUER that lived in Gerabronn
filled out his Wurtemburg Emigration papers in 1853, which means that
an emigration date of 1854 would fit nicely. I have Moses' signature
from the WEI papers, which match his signature on paperwork for his
second marriage in Illinois. The Illinois Moses' birthday is Nov 1836
and the Moses that lived in Gerabronn's birthday is 15 Nov 1836. It
all seems to match so well!!

The Jewish family register in Stutgart says that the Jewish LANDAUER
family lived in Gerabronn for generations and gives the names and dates
for my ancestors back to 1743.

What can I say to my 78 year old great aunt? Was Alsace Loraine ever
part of Wurtemberg? Years ago I met a LANDAUER researcher that also
said his LANDAUER gggrandmother was >from France. Except for that, she
would be a perfect match for being a sister to the Gerabronn MOSES. I
have briefly looked into Alsace Loraine, but haven't found where it was
THAT close to Gerabronn. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Has anybody seen this publication advertised on the Israel Genealogical Soc

like to know more about the format - book or electronic, searchable?
Supposedly it is a translated index of 8000 Hebrew inscriptions for years
1740-1906 for the Mount of Olives cemetery. How does one get access to it
or buy a copy?
