Some new interesting Feuer info #galicia

JudiAnneRoth@...

Regarding the names, Teige & Bendik, Bendik might be Bendit, which is a
Yiddishism of Baruch, possible Benny in English.
Teige might be Teibe (again a spelling mistake), which is a form of Toibe, &
might be Toby in English.

Judy Rothman
Brooklyn, NY

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By the way, would anyone know what the names Teige and Bendik would
translate into?? Their families are our cousins and we need to find
their offspring!
FW: Kogan #galicia
Hello,
I'm researching Kogan originally >from "Austria", possibly the Brody area.
They crossed the border and ended up in Dubno/Radziwillow and then Odessa.
Thanks,
Re: FW: Kogan #galicia
Simon Barak
The name Kogan cannot be an original "Austrian" name.
Kogan, Kagan, etc. are slavic (Russian) mispronunciation of the names
Kahan and Kohan.
Dr Shimon Barak, Tel Aviv, Israel.
Researching the following surnames:
BARG, BARK, BARCK, BERG (Anywhere but especially Odessa and Berezovka
(Ukraine) and Argentina - Please visit our Homepage at
www.geocities.com/bargfamily/
MAURER, NEUMANN (Drohobycz, Boryslaw and Lwow)
TACHMAN, TAJMAN, TAKHMAN, TOKER (Chisinau, Argentina)
HOLZMANN (Przasnysz, Poland and Israel)
SILBERSTEIN (Warsaw and Tel Aviv)
NISNEVICH and Lyakhovichi #belarus
Deborah Glassman <dgg2020@...>
In response to the posting about Nisnevich possibly >from Baranovichi.
The family name Nisnevich appears on the Lyakhovichi shtetl site in the
forms NIESNIWICKI and NEZNEWITZKY. Lyakhovichi is the next town over from
Baranovichi.
Look on the Lyakhovichi shtetl site
http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/lyakhovichi/lyakhovichi.html
Baranovichi became home to many >from nearby Lyakhovichi when the Baranovichi
was built as a railway town in the 1870s. Many families in Baranovichi had
strong family ties to Lyakhovichi. The name NIESNIWICKI appears on the
Lyakhovichi site in a Holocaust listing of those born in Lyakhovichi but
living elsewhere; it is actually mangled on an Ellis Island list there -it
will appear in the May update as the correction "NEZNEWITZKAYA" to an Ellis
Island record transcribed in the EIDB as "Negnewitzkafa" (That is the record
of a 27 year old woman Minja entering the US in 1913 with a brother Chaskel
NEZNEWITZKY in Lyakhovichi and going to a sister surnamed POLAK.)
For any researcher who only knows that their family was >from Slutsk,
Slonim, Baranovichi, Kletsk, Nesvizh, or one of the small towns in the
area - I suggest you check out the Lyakhovichi shtetl site for possible
connections.
As the webmaster of that site I am always looking for more information on
family and places related to Lyakhovichi. We have a big update scheduled for
the second week in May with many new photos and data resources to be added.
We would love to post your Lyakhovichi materials and give you a space to
post specific searches you are doing.
