Brandon,

Have you checked the JewishGen Hungary database? Viszoka, Saros, Hungary is now
Vysoka, Sabinov, Slovakia. It is not in the Czech Republic.

I've found her on jewishgen with a link to her arrival records in Ellis Island:

Departure: Bremen
Arrival: New York - October 9th, 1910
Ship Name: George Washington

What I really need is her birth certificate, but I'm not sure which country to
approach or how to request the documentation. Any help with direction to
resources would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Brandon,
I think you are referring to a village called Vysoka nad Kysucou in Slovakia (not
Czech Republic). According to my search results, many Hochfelders originated from
this place situated in Zilina region, Cadca district.
According to a comment in Internet
(http://www.surnameweb.com/Felder/surname-origin.htm) Hochfelder (meaning High
Fields) are Jewish people originating >from Vysoka (meaning High in Slovakian).

INTRO - researching GUNDELFINGER family from Ulm Germany #germany

research@...

Hello GerSig
I have just joined the group and have been doing genealogy for six months. I
consider myself to be a beginner in doing German Jewish Genealogy research

I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and recently moved to London,
England

My native language is English and I also speak and read reasonable German

I consider myself advanced in using a computer. My experience in using the
Internet is intermediate

Three of my four Grandparents were born in Germany (they came >from the
Bavaria and surrounding areas) and I have put together a partial family tree
including places and dates of birth, marriage and death where known. Great
Grandparents were all born, lived and died in Germany

My primary research goals are now to fill in the blanks and obtain the
outstanding dates and then follow up by obtaining copies of the official
documents

My JGFF Research ID is #802541

The family names and ancestral towns that I have entered in the JGFF are: -

GUNDELFINGER - Ichenhausen, Gunzburg, Bavaria, Germany to Pretoria, South
Africa
GUNDELFINGER - Landau in der Pfalz, Rheinland- Palatinate, Germany to
Pretoria South Africa
STERN - Landau in der Pfalz, Rheinland- Palatinate, Germany to Pretoria
South Africa
OPPENHEIMER - Southern Germany about 1883, Germany to Cape Town South Africa
GINSBERG - Silesia, Poland about 1859
NATHAN - Any, Germany about 1860

Thanking you in advance

Andrew Gundelfinger, London, England JGFF ID #802541

Moderator Note: Welcome to GerSIG and thanks for your INTRO message.
A once active GerSIG member Adam Yamey did extensive research on
Ichenhausen, Gundelfinger and on migration >from Europe to South
Africa. His GerSIG messages and comments >from other members on them
are all easily found in the SIG archives.

Bill Yoffee z'l #lithuania

I am greatly saddened to hear of Bill's recent passing. I had the
pleasure of being on a "roots trip" to Lithuania with him ten years
ago and really enjoyed getting to know him a bit. We kept in contact
occasionally after the trip and his kind and caring attitude was
always evident. He was knowledgeable about so many things, not the
least of which was Lithuanian genealogy, and was a wonderful source of
information for me and other fellow researchers.

Bill was just an all-around great guy and he will be sorely missed by
those who knew him.

May his memory be for a blessing.
