Re: Y Haplogroup discrepancy #dna

Hi Sheila,

The two are not exclusive, but FTDNA is more precise with its location.
It's as if 23andMe gave you the name of the street (in this case, L266)
and FTDNA originally told you which side of the street (M124) and now
has narrowed the haplogroup even more specifically to an address on that
street.

My husband, who is 25% Jewish on paper (paternal grandfather) but 14%
by DNA testing, recently received updated results >from 23andMe which
specify his Y haplogroup as R-L266. However, Family Tree DNA, which
previously had his paternal haplogroup as R-M124, now says it's R-F1758.
Either way, the 2 companies appear to have come up with different
results. Can someone explain this in terms I might understand?

See this page at FTDNA

for a lengthy explanation. FTDNA goes much deeper into analysis of
the Y chromosome than 23andme

Several years ago, I called the Moldova embassy in Washington, DC to find out about records
concerning my father, Julius Nuch, who was born and raised in the town of Rezina. A
representative there suggested I put my request in writing, which I did. I never heard back >from
anyone there. The country, Moldova, was still pretty new at the time, and there was no mention
of the archives in our conversation.

Thanks, Yefim, for all that you do.

An interview with Danziger Gershon Yelin (Jelen) is now available on
our website at https://www.jewishgen.org/danzig/gyelin.php. Thanks
very much to Gershon and his daughter Amy, the interviewer, for
sharing their family's experience. Perhaps, some of our SIG members
have relatives who were classmates of Gershon's in Samuel Echt's
elementary school?

Hi everybody,

I am going to present this year at the conference in Warsaw on a topic of
"Moldovan Archives: What information we can find in addition to Vital
records and Revision Lists."

At my presentation I am going to talk about new records we are going to get
in the future, a number of projects provide an inventory on Jewish material
from Moldovan as well as other archives, information on an important All
Russia 1897 census, and more.

I would like to ask our members to share their experience on your contacts
successful and not-successful with Moldova Archives. I know that many of
you hired researchers to get some information >from the archives. That
experience I also had, but if you tried direct contacts with Archives,
please let me know. That may help other people and our group to find more
information about our ancestors.

You can submit a post to the group or email me directly.

All the best,

Exciting landmark for Ukraine SIG #ukraine

Janette Silverman

Dear Friends:

I am very happy to say that we now have 4,100 subscribers to the Ukraine
SIG Discussion Group! This is extraordinarily exciting. On this same
date in 2015, we had 3553 subscribers!

Within the next few weeks, I will be able to inform you of our most
recent updates to the JewishGen databases - we had some challenges in
preparing new additions to the database and making corrections to
previously submitted data. We identified duplications and some other
errors which we wanted to correct. The corrected spreadsheets are
almost ready for submission, and will include new information. When the
data is live, I will submit a message to the group with details. Please
do not email me to ask me what the new information is - a message to the
group will include details when the information has been integrated into
the JewishGen databases.

I hope that many of you are planning to join us at the IAJGS conference
in Warsaw in August. There will be a SIG luncheon, so please remember
to sign up for it when it's announced. As always, in addition to the
lunch, we will have a general SIG meeting.

I look forward to seeing you in Warsaw.
