Searching: ROTHERAM - Norfolk #general

Karen Bali <karen.bali@...>

I am desperately seeking information about a lady who almost certainly
came >from Eastern Europe, probably in the 1930s.
Ruda Lille ROTHERAM was in her late teens and living in Norfolk in the
1930s. She worked as a domestic/companion to the local nurse. No birth
record has been found for her in this country and no marriage up to 1960
under this surname. Her first names and surname do not appear to be
congruent, ROTHERAM being a Norman British name, but she was almost
certainly single. Was Rotheram an anglicised version of a Jewish name,
or was she perhaps informally adopted?
Any information/ideas/suggestions gratefully received !
Thank you.

Looking for Irena-Irka nee KLEINER: Lodz --> USA #general

Orit Lavi <orit@...>

Dear Friends,

I would greatly appreciate help in finding Irena-Irka Kleiner (KLEJNER) or
her descendants.

Irka lived in Lodz, Poland. I assume she was born between 1910-1920.
She survived Lodz ghetto and Bergen Belsen.
After the war she immigrated to the US. Her married name is not known.

Irka was the daughter of Riwka KLEJNER nee ROZNER, born circa 1888 in
Klimontow area (Rybnica). Irka's father died when she was very young
(I think it was in the early 1920s). Riwka died in Lodz ghetto,
as well as one of Irka's sisters - Ester - Estusha.
Irka had another sister (name not known), who survived and perhaps
immigrated to Sweden after the war.

Irena - Irka and her sister are my only cousins >from the ROZNER branch with
whom we lost contact. If any of the above sounds familiar,
I would be most gracious if you write to me privately.

Hello researchers
I am trying to find as much information as I can on my great grandparents on my
mothers side of the family. They are David & Anna RAKOFF. As far as I know they
just had two kids my grandmother Ruth born in 1922 and my uncle now gone born
in 1923. My mother has told me though >from what she remembers hearing many
times is that they had more kids born befor them. Some of them died very young,
probably due to influenza. Supposedly there wasa set of twin siblings that died
young to due a car hitting them while they were riding their bikes. I do not
know if any of this is fact, but Ii would love to find out. Any help is
appreciated.

Samuel STEINER and his family: Hungary - Manhattan #general

Sacredsisters3 <sacredsisters3@...>

Hello to all researchers.
I am seeking any and all information on my STEINER ancestors. Samuel STEINER
born about 1864/1865 in Hungary. I would love to find out his date of death and
possibly track down an obit. According to the 1900 New York Manhattan census it
listed his wife's name as cecelia also born about 1864/1865 in Hungary and a
daughter and son named Theresa Steiner(my great-grandmother) and Isadore
steiner. I have a death date for theresa(STEINER)HARRIS for July of 1974, but
have been unable to track down an obit in the New York Times. Any and all
information is appreciated. Theresa married Myer HARRIS in 1910 and had two
kids Annette and Jess. Annette married Theodore GREENBERG who inturned produced
three kids one of which is my father.

Hello,

"Shaarei Yerushalayim" means "The Gates of Jerusalem" in Hebrew. There is a book
with this name by R' Dov Berish Ashkenazy, a commentary on the Jerusalem Talmud.
See <http://www.virtualgeula.com/mkp/shin.htm/mkp/shin.htm> (in Hebrew). Scroll
down until the name shows up. See also <http://www.virtualgeula.com> (in English).

Re: Questions about Berlin Addressbook - LEBURG #germany

Hermann, da Fonseca-Wollheim <Hermann.da.Fonseca-Wollheim@...>

1. My explanation is that people had to pay to be listed in an Adress
book. In Breslau, I found that in many years the people listed were very
relatively wealthy (e.g. there were much more "merchants" than
"tradesmen"). When life became difficult, one of the expenses which
could be stopped was the listing in an Address Buch. During the world
ecomic crisis, many people might have done this.

2. The reason for the "T" in later editions could be that the phone
number of the listed person could be found in he telephon directory.

Hermann da Fonseca-Wollheim Tervuren, Belgium

Barbara Algaze Los Angeles, California Algaze@comcast.net asked:
A fellow Gersigger has found the name of my grandmother (Ella LEBURG) in the
online Berlin Addressbook http://adressbuch.zlb.de/ for the years of
1925 through 1932 living at W 50, Pragerstrasse 8. For the years of
1933 and 1934 there is no listing and then she reappears in the years of
1935 through 1939 at the same address.
The only difference in the listings is that in the earlier years her
telephone number was listed, and in the later years there is only a
capital "T" listed, with no number.
Does anyone have a logical explanation for this phenomenon? Any
suggestions will be entertained. Thank you.
