The name Valentin #france

Ellen Cleary <ellencleary@...>

I have been researching the records of Reichshoffen, Alsace.

I am seeing the first name Valentin for Jewish men in some of these
records. Sometimes it looks to me like a variant of that name is the
first name Fohlen. I am wondering what Jewish name the name Valentin
might correspond to. And I am curious whether the name Valentin is used
in any form as Jewish name today.

The Center for Jewish History
15 West 16th Street

town groups for lunch, either at the Center or at neighborhood restaurants, which
will provide additional opportunities for birds-of-a-feather networking. Again...
specifics will be forthcoming.

given name HERSCHEL LEIB #lithuania

HeyJudy123@...

I have been told that the first names of HERSCHEL TZVI (or, alternatively,
TZVI HERSCHEL) and ARYEH LEIB are fairly common combinations, and much has
been written to this Sig about the meanings of these names.

Yet in my branch of the SEGAL family, hailing >from Czarist Lithuania, c.
1880 (our calendar), there apparently is the first name of HERSCHEL LEIB.

Has anyone else heard of this particular combination?

Thank you,
