Re: New Synagogue Records #unitedkingdom

Laurence Harris <Laurence@...>

Lois Kaufman asked about [marriage] records of the New Synagogue [publicly]
available after 1830's.

The Mormons microfilmed a number of New Synagogue records and they are on
film reel number 0094668 which contains:

Marriages, 1791-1823 and 1837-1860.
Register of circumcisions 1791-1823;
Births 1774-1896

The film can be hired at any (Mormon) Family History Library. There is a
copy of this film on permanent availability at the South Kensington/Hyde
Park branch.

Wishing all a Healthy and Peaceful New Year

Sincerely
Laurence Harris

Dear listers,

Can somebody please tell me if marriage records exist for the New Synagogue
for the years post 1830s. Angela Shire has transcribed the records available
prior to this date >from the Mormon microfilms, but I was wondering about
records after this date. Can anyone enlighten me?

Shana tova and regards,

Lois Kaufman

I think this refers to Plashet Jewish cemetery in East London. More info on
the cemetery can be found at
http://www.jewishgen.org/cemetery/brit/london.html

There is also a cemetery plan at
http://www.unitedsynagogue.org.uk/plashnet.doc which may help.

Hillersleben, German #general

Daniel Kazez <dkazez@...>

I notice at the JewishGen Discussion Group Archives:

http://data.jewishgen.org/wconnect/wc.dll?jg~jgsys~archpop

no messages referring to Hillersleben, Germany. Perhaps my message below,
then, is of interest to no one!

At the American Jewish Archives in Cincinnati, Ohio, I noticed and made
copies of about 10 pages of messages sent by Holocaust survivors from
Hillersleben. I am sorry that I don't know anything about Hillersleben.
Perhaps someone receiving this message will. I have digital copies, but
archive policy forbids the public posting of such images. Why do I have
copies? Because I was interested in (and am guiding the typing of) a
collection of messages sent by Holocaust survivors in Stockholm in 1945.

A cousin is going to visit our root geography in Ukraine. She's not
going to be looking at records -- rather going with 9 others to see the
actual sites and exchange family stories.

Her question to me is what to take to record all this. Digital camera,
of course. She wants to take her computer and download digital tape
recordings. Since she probably won't want to schlep her computer w her
all day (remember, they're not researching archives), is it OK for her
to leave it in a hotel and download at the end of the day?

Or should she take a recorder that uses tapes and leave the laptop at
home?

Thanks,

I have found the 1882 Blackie & Sons Atlas of eastern Europe to be very
useful in my similar quests. It doesn't show absolutely every small town,
but it does show a fair number of them. Happily, these maps can be found

Both Zemplin and Szepes counties in modern Slovakia contained towns
named Dubrava at the time of the 1869 Magyar Census. "My" Dubrava (lat
48.88; long 22.36) is near the Ukraine border. I have checked Mapquest
and done Googles on these counties but have not found a county boundary
map with which to site Dubrava for purposes of census checking. Helpful
hints would be much appreciated.
