Radoshkovich Revision list #belarus

Stephen A. Cohen

In the Radoshkovich list there appears an unfamiliar surname: SHEKGAUZ .
The Jewishgen Family finder & The Family Tree of the Jewish People have
nothing under that exact spelling nor using soundex.

My guess is that it is an error in the original list or in translation as I
believe it is actually part of the listing under: SHENGAUZ.

This would correspond to my families research of SHEINHOUS,
SHEINHOUSE,SHEINHAUS,SCHEINHAUS,SHEINHUEZ,
SCHEINGAUZ,SHEINHAUZ.

Does anyone actually know the SHEKGAUZ name?

Best regards,

passport applications (SLOVAKIA) #hungary

BOBBY FURST <bobby1st@...>

I have a contact who can make copies of passport applications that are
housed in the Bratislava Archive. These are only for persons who lived
in western Slovakia. (He is still trying to find out where the passport
applications for eastern Slovakia are archived).

If you potentially are interested in participating in a group effort to
get copies, please send me the name(s), where they lived and approximate
date(s), (and any other identifying information that will increase the
likelihood of finding the correct papers) of the persons of interest.

Please contact me off list if you are interested.

coroner's report and other #general

jutel@...

my presumed gggfather, SAmuel STEINBERG, died in 1885 in
Marion County, Indiana, by asphyxiation, according to both
his death certificate, and the newspapers which widely
reported his death due to a broken stove pipe. His
religious convictions prevented him >from getting the stove
fixed on the sabbath. A coroner's report was cited in the
paper, and the paper states that his grandson contributed to
this report.

Firstly, I would like to find out how to obtain a coroner's
report. Does anyone know how to do this? Secondly, his
wife, whose name is not mentionned in any of the three
newspaper articles or his death certificate, was apparently
left between life and death as a result of this accident.
no Mrs Steinberg appears in the WPA death index, nor do any
deaths of older women in the days/weeks surrounding this
incident seem to be likely matches. Have you suggestions for
solving this part of the enigma ?

Many thanks

My g. grandmother Mary = Miriam = Masha #general

Jeff Sugarman <sugarjf@...>

My g. grandmother in London went by the name of Mary.

Mary LEVINE SUGARMAN was born in Vilna province around 1863. In the
1890's , the London birth records of her children list her as Miriam. At
the cemetery, the English name on the stone is Mary, but the Hebrew letters
of her name (Mem Aleph Shin Aleph) seem to spell some variant of Masha.

A fellow researcher wrote me that a book she has explains that Masheh is a
feminine form of Moshe and that the name was created by those who wished to
name a girl after her father or grandfather. I'll try to find the name of
the book in question.

Hello Annemarie,
Here are a few ideas for you...

You might try contacting the Marion County Coroner's office and ask if
they have records that far back...

http://www6.indygov.org/coroner/

Have you looked in the 1880 census? It is indexed online at the LDS
Familysearch site...

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/
search_census.asp

You may have already done this, but here is an Indianapolis newspaper
database that covers 1848-1888...

http://199.8.200.229/db/1848_1888_search.asp

Good luck with your search.
