Finding out next of kin from cemetery records #general

Madeleine Sann <madsann@...>

I am in the process of arranging for a footstone to be placed on my
grandfather's grave in memory of my mother (his daughter).
The cemetery office needed to make sure all next of kin were
either in agreement with this request, or were deceased.
I had not realized that cemetery offices maintain information
both about people listed as next of kin when an
individual is buried, but also about Their next of kin. In my
grandfather's case, for example, my request pointed to my
uncle (deceased), my uncle's wife (also deceased), and my
aunt's brother (not deceased). I throw this out because
it may help someone find missing relatives when all
else has failed, though I would urge Genners to go this
route cautiously and not to overwhelm cemetery offices
with unnecessary requests.

Yad Vashem-A Smart Search -Hall of Names #general

Abuwasta Abuwasta

Dea Genners,
I would like to report a pleasant discovery I made
today at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem when I was at the
Hall of Names. They have computerized their millions
of testimonies and you can display the testimony on
the computer's screen and also print it for NIS 2
(about 43 US cents). It will be soon online. One of the
search options is to search by the surname of the
person who have filled the testimony. I typed
KOENIGSBUCH (the family I am searching) and found out
a testimony about Mrs. Hinda Satz. It was filled by
her grandson Nadav Tamir(a chic contemporary
Israeli/Sabra name)who lives in Ashkelon.He filled the
space of previous surname as Koenigsbuch.I was sure
that he is probably a young grandson of one of the
Koenigsbuchs. I called and learned >from his wife that
he was born in Berlin in 1924(!) and spent the war in
Denmark and Sweden.I'll talk to him soon.
Except for the fact that I discovered another branch
of the family I was not aware of I found out that
while you go to Yad Vashem to learn about the dead you
may find alive relatives. Am Israel Chai!!!!

MAKOWER Family #general

Shmuel <shmuel@...>

Looking for help regarding the Makower family >from Plock-Poland
The Makower family has been a subject of research for 25-30
years now. The result is shown in this site:
www.kehati.co.il/makower. We thank all those
who helped over the years to make this possible.

However, this is far >from being complete. As stated in the Main Page,
Dawid & Rachel Makower Died (1850 & 1870) in Plock, Poland.
They had 24 Children: 12 Boys & 12 girls, but only 12 are
known and mentioned here, and descendents are known
from only 6 of these.
Therefore, this family is known as "The 24".So any one who think
he is connected to the Makower family is invited to
search the site, and the "unconnected" branches, as well,
and tell us his side of the family.

We are looking for help also in another angle.
Our family's tradition speaks about "The Golden Flag"
(Degel HaZahav, in Hebrew). We don't know what it is
or what it refers to. We have searched everywhere,
consulted universities and professors, but nothing comes up.
We appreciate any information in this regard.

Thanks,
Shmuel Kehati

MITNICK and MITNITSKY #ukraine

stmitnick@...

I've recently discovered that my surname MITNICK was originally MITNITSKY.
I was sent some land transfer papers >from Woodbine, NJ., which listed my
great-grandfather as Harry MITNITSKY. I was wondering if anyone had any
information on the name MITNITSKY. I believe that my great-grandparents,
Harry and Dora MITNITSKY came >from Kiev, though I have no proof of that.
They settled in Woodbine, NJ. with their children, Jacob MITNICK, Minnie (Mae)
MITNICK CASTEN and Rose MITNICK WITT. Dora died in 1918, and I believe that
Harry died in the mid to late 1920's. Harry's second wife's name was Hannah,
or Anna, and I believe that she later married a man named Max ALEXENBERG.

Thank you.
