#general
Dear Genners,
Do you have people on your tree called COREN and/or WEINTHROP? I am interested any that settled in London in about 1890 and have found the families are linked numerous times. The GOLDSTEIN family also connects to that branch. The father of the main family was Hyman (Chaim) WEINTHROP,who married Sivia GOLDSTEIN and then Fanny WEINTHROP. Chaim and Fanny both lived >from 1850-1930 approx and they both came >from Plonsk/Plinsk/Plock/Plotz in Poland. To compare information, please get in touch! Thanks, Daniel Gleek in London daniel@lobbus.co.uk

Seeking late 1800s-early 1900s vital records from Ukraine Podolia region towns
#general
Holman <vcrfromslauson@...>
Hello,
Most of my ancestors were born in the Podolia towns Kamianets-Podilskyi, Nova Ushytsya, Mynkivtsi and Vinkivtsi, and left Ukraine for North America between 1915-1924. I am wanting to track down late 1800s-early 1900s for these towns to see if my ancestors are mentioned. It does not appear there are any on JewishGen, does anyone know if they exist anywhere online? I read about the 2004 in the Kamianets-Podilskyi archives, which has me concerned that what I seek may no longer exist at all. Any advice is greatly appreciated, Thanks! Will Holman (760161) vcrfromslauson@gmail.com Researching: GELLER, SCOTT (SKOTT/TKACZ/TKACZMAN), MILMOT (MALAMOT/MELAMAD), GOLDSTEIN ( SCHINDELMAN/CHABELMAN)

Zablocie near Zywiec (was: Current cities)

Alexander Sharon
Tom,
You are most probably searching for Zablocie near (ad) Zywiec. This used to be a separate Jewish town near Zywiec (German: Saybusch), >from 1950 was integrated within town Zywiec as the suburb.=20 Place is often mistaken as located in Krakow region due to its close proximity to Krakow but it's actually administered by Slask (Upper Silesia) Province. To make things a bit more complicated, vital Jewish records are indeed located in Krakow but not in the traditionally lpcation such as Poland Government Archives but in the Krakow National Archives. This is probably a reason, that many folks cannot locate their ancestors records for Zablocie and Zywiec, please see discussion forum archives on this subject. You don't have physically schlep to Krakow to retrieve records, those days you can do it through Internet by writing directly to Archives. Archiwum Narodowe w Krakowie Krakow 30-690 ul. Polish Jewish Survivors India/US/Mexico
#general
Lande
After the outbreak of war in 1941 several thousand Polish Jews fled via Iran
to India. I have come across a list of 700 of these refugees (mostly Jewish women and children) who in March 1943 were taken by ship through the South Pacific arriving in Los Angeles in July 1943. Since they did not have visas they were taken by train to El Paso and then to Ciudad Juarez or Leon. The Red Cross and the American Joint Distribution Committee provided assistance. The files I have found do not disclose what happened to them after the war, e.g. admittance to the US/transfer to Palestine/return to Poland. I will prepare a list for Jewishgen but would be interested whether anyone has information as to what happened to them after 1943. Peter Lande Washington, D.C.

This week's Yizkor book excerpt on the JewishGen Facebook page
#general
Bruce Drake <BDrake@...>
A recurring subject in Yizkor books are accounts by survivors of the Holocaust who
returned to their home towns after the defeat of Germany. In "Stones Tell the Tale," Eliezer Schenker writes of his return to Oswiecim in Poland, a name >from which Auschwitz was derived. Jews called the town Oshpitzin. Schenker and his family arrived "shriveled, hungry, dressed in tatters and penniless...and stood at the train station of my birth-town without any possibility of recognizing it." He describes movingly his visit to the cemetery which had been desecrated and where he found a bomb crater where his mother's grave had been and he set a task for himself to help restore it. Later, he asked himself if it was "right to abandon the remaining vestiges of the cultural and religious heritage of Polish Jewry to the Poles" and he decided to stay, which he did for ten years.
Yonatan Ben-Ari
Looking for a young lady I knew in 1962 in Jerusalem, Nira GOLDENBERG. Presuming
she married, I do not know her married name. Her parents (and she) lived in Rechavia in the 1950-1960s. She would be around 73 y.o. today. Yoni Ben-Ari, Jerusalem MODERATOR: Private responses only
