VM3166:Translation handwritten German on death certificate
#general
Haendel Evelyne <haendelevelyne@...>
Dear Genners
I have received copy of a death declaration for my paternal grandfather: Jacob, Israel HÄNDEL who died in Vienna, Austria in September 1934. I have posted on VIEWMATE, as file VM3166 two handwritten lines in German which contain, I believe, my great grandparents first names ( last name Händel is quite readable). The ViewMate adress is: http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/toview.html and the direct address is: http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/ALL/viewmateview.asp?key=3166 I would be very grateful for any help to read these lines, especially the first names as well as the language used. My grandfather, as well as my grandmother were both originated in Sniatyn (Poland?Austria?Galicia? now Ukraine) in 1877 and 1883. They emigrated to Vienna, Austria probably between 1910 and 1920. So far, I thought I was the only one of my family who had survived through the holocaust but I just discovered that I might have some living cousins! The missing link to be sure we are related could be found with these names! I need not say how important it is for me. Thank you for any help you can give me. If you need any more information, I will be glad to provide if available, of course. Thank you again, best regards and Happy Thanksgiving to all Evelyne Haendel Liège, Belgium Please answer directly: haendelevelyne@hotmail.com Searching for: HÄNDEL/HENDEL Sniatyn - Vienna KARPEL Sniatyn - Vienna WOLFWOWITZ/ WOLFOWICZ Lodz - Dortmund- Antwerp- Brussels-USA

Rovno, Russia or Ukraine?
#general
Pedro <pedro65@...>
I am working on the ALPERIN or ALPERN family, who I believe
came >from a town named Rovno. In various documents (marriage cert., naturalization papers & passenger lists), immigrant members of the family stated that they were born in, came from, or had grandparents in: Rovno, Russia; Rovnow, Russia; Volin, Russia; and Volinsk, Russia. In a passenger list two such family members stated they came >from Alexandromo, Russia. And, finally, in a census record, one family record stated that his mother tongue was Lithuanian. None of the documents mentioned Ukraine, just Russia. The family immigrated to the U.S. in the first decade of the 1900's. Based on the above, it appears to me that the town of Rovno in Ukraine is most likely the town in question. As I understand it, Rovno, Ukraine is in the Gubernia or province of Volyn, Ukraine, which might explain the references to Volin and Volinsk. I have no explanation for the references to Alexandromo and the Lithuanian mother tongue. However, I am new at this area of the world and Jewish genealogy in general, and I'd hate to jump quickly on Rovno, Ukraine and make a mistake. I'd appreciate any comments others more experienced in such issues may have on my preliminary conclusion. Thanks for your thoughts. Peter Nolan Henderson, Nevada -- To contact me directly by email, please remove the words "NO" and "SPAM" >from the reply address above.

Jankiel (34) and Fayga (29) SZAFRAN came through
ellis island in 1922 with their children Srul (7), Necha Ryfka (5) and Dwora (3). Jankiel listed a brother Feiwel SZAFRAN back in Przasnsyz and said that they were going to Kalamazoo, Michigan. In my family tree, Necha Ryfka ALLENSZTEJN (b.1854) married Hersz SZAFRAN in 1873.I assume, >from the Necha Ryfka connection, that Jankiel was a son of Necha Ryfka and Hersz. I have, I hope, found the birth certificate for my

According to her 1855 marriage document, Malka JURKIEWICZ was born around 1836, the daughter of Lewek and either Laja or Chaja. Viewmate 3165: Act in russian
#general
Nicolas Trokiner <paulsimon@...>
Dear Genners,
Thanks to the fantastic JRI project, I located and received the marriage act of my G-G-grandparents from Lodz, in 1895. Needless to say it is like goldfor me as it will bring me 4 more ancestors names. I think I´ve been able to read their names (I learnt reading in few minutes yesterday!) but I´d like a confirmation. I´m confused with the 1st name of the bride´s father, whick looks like "Iouk" and seems to appear previously in the act. If someone could take few minutes to translate the whole act, even basically, I´d appreciate very much. On that day, could my G-G-grandparents imagine that they would be deported >from France and sent back to their home country, to die? The file is viewable at the following address: http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/ALL/viewmateview.asp?key=3165 Please answer privatly. Thanks!
