Dear Genners,
Where would I find the Obit or death certificate for someone who died in
Los-Angeles in 1994 Is there an online searchable database?
Actually I'm looking for an Obit of Robert S. Richmond, died in Apr.17 1994
in Los-Angeles.
The information is very important to me, because the connection
with the family in the US continent stops many years ago,
and by getting his obit, I wish to contact the
survivors of my family.
It means very much to me.
Kindly Regards,
Rachel Asherovitz

Re: death prior to naturalization #general

With regard to an applicant for naturalization dying prior to naturalization
being granted: I have found a case in which a Declaration was filed in 1905
and a Petition for Naturalization was filed in 1916. The applicant died in
late 1916. Both of the papers were found in the County records as they would
normally be; the only difference is that there is a note on the petition
stating that the Petition had been "denied, due to death".

Re: More on Ernst GUENZBURGER / GUNZENBURGER #germany

Steven Leof <sleof.sln25@...>

According to Ron Gunzburger, Ernst G=DCNZBURGER had three brothers, one of
whom was named Fritz G=DCNZBURGER (1897-1935). However, he does not seem to be
the Fritz G=DCNZBURGER whom you are seeking as my family's Fritz G=DCNZBURGER
does not appear to be >from the same area of Germany. Fritz was born in
W=F6rrstadt, Rheinhessen in 1897. He fought in the Germany Army in World War
I (was injured in combat and decorated). The other two brothers who also
fought for Germany -- Wilhelm and Robert -- were killed in combat (Robert
was killed on the Eastern Front in Galizia in 1915; Wilhelm died fighting on
the Western Front in 1915). After the war, Fritz became a semi-pro boxer
and a salesman, and was also active in Jewish social organizations. He was
also vocally anti-Nazi and frequently engaged in street fist fights with the
S.A. brownshirts in the early 1930s (by family legend, Fritz was often the one
who started -- and won -- the fights because of his background as a boxer).

He died in Berlin of a heart attack in 1935. Regards

Projects #germany

Susan Edel

I agree that it would be a better idea if we knew what projects we would be
supporting. I for one would support the computerizing of Charles Stanton's
collection. Why would it be a problem to put living members names on the
Internet. The names of living people are on Jewish Gen, without dates, so
what is the difference?

Susan EDEL, Petach Tikva, Israel

MODERATOR NOTE: The "living people" issue is only one of several problems with
Mr. Stanton's charts. Many of them are brittle with age and consist of pages
joined by tape which has decomposed. But until LBI is heard >from on the matter
of digitalization of its Stanton data all such questions are moot. MOD1

Does anyone have information on the Kelme cemetery? #lithuania

I noticed on the JewishGen IAJGS Cemetery Project web page, the
following is written about the Jewish Cemetery in Kelme, Lithuania:

"KELME:
Large cemetery with several hundred stones in varying condition.
Alternate names: Kelem, Kelmy (Russian), Kelem or Kelm (Yiddish)."

Does anyone know if these gravestones have been photographed, or whether
the information >from the stones has been collected?

And, if so, where this information would be available?

Thanks for any input.

I'm interested in obtaining records for areas of Svencionys and Oshmiany. I've
been informed by Litvak SIG that these areas are now a part of Belarus and has
been "handed over" to this SIG. Are there any research projects going on for
these areas? If not, is anyone else interested in having records translated
for these areas (and specifically for Smorgon and Svenciany)?

Thanks!

I have an Ernst G=DCNZBURGER in my family tree. His wife was Alma GUTMAN. They
had a son Gerard Josef Gunzburger who was born on 26 June 1931 in Berlin
(Wilmersdorf), Germany. With his parents he made it to Vichy, France in 1939
and to Bogota, Columbia in 1942. After going to college there, he came
to the US in the 1950s, earned a graduate chemistry degree >from MIT, and later
started and built a plastics company in Florida. Gerard's grandfather
GUTMAN (a Romanian citizen) managed to survive the entire war in Berlin
without ever getting arrested even though both his name and appearance
were fairly Jewish (family lore has it that a Catholic family, friends of his
