Forgive me, I feel it is necessary to check with all of the JRI lists that I
am subscribed to
As we do not know where they came >from but think they may have been related
to people >from Liverpool or Nottingham.

They may be >from one of the following families - DEAN, HARRIS. VISHNEFSKY,
HARRIS, STANLEY, LEVINE.

My cousin Colin has given me this photo and thinks that they could have
connection to one or more of the above names.

The first names he seems to recall that may be connected to the photo,
somehow are, David, Abraham, Annie, Patrick and Marion, Stanley.

Colin would be most grateful to have someone confirm this.

Perhaps you can remember the individuals, or have a similar photo in you own
collection such as in the photograph

Please reply to me at my private email - jdsrh_r_t_g_@mweb.co.za

It is an unbelievable web-site, but covers only Poland. Is there any web-site that covers Hungary?

Ilava and Arva Vital Records #hungary

Carol J. Robinson <caroljr@...>

As an unintended outcome of approving record transcriptions, we have
received digitalized records for LDS film # 1981155, Jewish records of
births, marriages and deaths for Ilava, Slovakia; formerly Illava,
Trencsén, Hungary. Text in German, Hungarian, and Hebrew. Jenny Brichta
has already transcribed the birth records.

We also received digitalized records for LDS film # 2062256, Records of
Jewish births, marriages and deaths for Trestená and Námestovo,
Slovakia, formerly Trsztena and Námesztó, Árva, Hungary. Text in
German. Also Records of Jewish births, marriages and deaths for the
region of Trstená, Slovakia, formerly Trsztena, Árva, Hungary. Text in
German, Hungarian, Hebrew and Slovak.

I'm wondering if any of you would be willing to take on the task of
transcribing the untranscribed part of these records. Because these are
electronic records, these can be transcribed at the convenience of your
home computer. So even those of you without access to FHCs can
transcribe these records.

Please let me know if you are willing to participate in a transcription
project. Also, if you find other LDS films of vital records that you
would like to transcribe and would prefer the convenience of
transcribing >from digital records at your home computer, let me know as
we might be able to obtain these records.

Best regards,

H-SIGGERS,

I was interested in the information on Internet sources for Hungarian inf=
antry
regiments and wondered whether anyone knows of similar sources for the Cz=
ech
Army. I am particularly interested in the infantry regiments that formed
at Agde, fought until the Fall of France, came to England and were based
first at Cholmondeley Castle and then in the Leamington Spa area, and esp=
ecially
at Walton Hall. The basic records of military service are held at the Voj=
ensky
Historicky Archiv in Prague but are there are sources which might have mo=
re
detailed historical information?

Thank you for this interesting and helpful information.
Would it be possible for Henry Wellisch to post his lecture for this h-sig
members?
Why are these records called "Magnate" records?
Many Thanks,
Kitty Sauber

"Synagogues without Jews" #hungary

Stephen Schmideg <stephen@...>

I found this is an excellent book, both visually and in content. It is more
of a travel book than history book, covering over 30 regional cities in
Europe. It deals briefly with each community's history and then the current
situation, including interviews with some locals. The photos are very good,
but they are mostly related to the synagogues and the surrounding areas.
The towns of Slovakia included are: Svaty Jur, Bardejov, Liptovsky Svaty
Mikulas, Vrbove, Trnava, Presov and Lucenec.

Is anyone familiar with the book, "Synagogues without
Jews"? It was written by Rivka Dorfman. Does this book
deal with the SLovakian Jewry during the Holocaust or
an earlier period?
