Grodzisk Maz. and Surrounding Towns Surname Cross Reference #poland

Family Tree Expert <Expert@...>

Do you have family >from towns just to the west of Warsaw, Poland and near
Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Poland? If so, you may want to check the new
Surname-Town Cross-Reference spreadsheet.

The cross-reference shows the surnames and where they appear in vital
records indexed as part of the JRI-Poland initiative >from the following towns:

Bolimow 52°05' 20°10'
Czerwinsk 52°24' 20°18'
Drobin 52°45' 19°59'
Grodzisk Mazowiecki 52°07' 20°38'
Mszczonow 51°59' 20°31'
Nadarzyn 52°06' 20°48'
Nowy Dwor Mazowiecki 52°26' 20°43'
Tarczyn 51°58' 20°50'
Wiskitki 52°05' 20°24'
Zakroczym 52°26' 20°38'

As an End-of-Year Challenge, we need to raise about $170 to complete the
indexing for 1840-1859 and 1877-1882 - 2,130 records. We have already
COMPLETED 1829-1831 as well as 1868-1877 - over 1,335 records!

Zamosc, Zamosc PSA Project Update! #poland

Shelley K. Pollero

Dear Zamosc Researchers,

I am happy to announce that the town of Zamosc PSA Project has qualifie
for the End of the Year Matching Funds Challenge >from Jewish Records Indexing Poland. Thanks to those who generously contributed $506 to the Zamosc, Zamosc PSA Project, we will get the $500 in matching funds and the Zamosc town project will be fully funded.

Once this has been processed and the indexing has been completed, the
indices will go live on the JRI-Poland database for all of our benefit, and
we will be able to focus on getting new Zamosc data added to the database.

Any funds raised in excess of the total project fundraising target will be
used to acquire additional indexes and transcribe them as soon as they are
delivered to the Zamosc branch of the Polish State Archives >from their
respective cities or towns.

It is not too late for you to contribute $90 US or more to be eligible to
obtain the town's complete PSA database as an Excel file for personal
research. This includes future PSA files as we receive them. Not only will
this enable you to see the information well in advance of its general
availability in the JRI-Poland Searchable Database; it will let you look at
ALL indices >from Zamosc, will allow you to search for given names, might
jog your memory about a long forgotten family name or a grandmother's elusive maiden name.

Here's how to make a contribution (for USA researchers, an end of the year
tax deductible contribution!):
Donations will be accepted by check, VISA or MasterCard. All contributions
should be marked "For Zamosc, Zamosc PSA project" on the check or on the
credit card form printed out, see below. Mail checks to:
Jewish Records Indexing - Poland
c/o Sheila Salo
5607 Greenleaf Rd
Cheverly, MD 2078
USA

Visa and MasterCard contributions may be phoned to Sheila at (301) 341-1261

Or print out the form at: http://www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl/visa.htm by
clicking on the VISA Card and fax or mail it to Sheila. The fax number is
also 1 (301) 341-1261. (8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern time only, please.) For
selected countries, JRI-Poland is able to accept bank drafts in a donor's
local currency. Please check the JRI-Poland contributions web page for the
list of countries. If your country is not on the list, and you do not wish
to pay by credit card, please contact JRI-Poland Treasurer, Sheila Salo,
for further help. The web site address is:

Trip to Latvia after Jerusalem2004 #courland #latvia

Barbara Siegel

Dear Latvian researchers,
I would very much like to find out if there is any interest among you in
putting together a research trip to Latvia after the IAJGS International
Jewish Genealogy Conference in Jerusalem July 4-9, 2004.

Some of us have made the trip in the past and are ready for a repeat go, and
for others it could be a first. Planning now just might give us enough time
to contact the Latvian Archives with our informational requests.

Important to note is the fact that, for those coming to the Conference from
North America and other distant sites, the flight time >from Israel to Riga
is relatively short--aprox. 3 hours.

So, please let me hear >from any interested parties.

Chicago help needed #general

grtuckman@...

Dear Group,

My great grandfather, Hillel SHAPIRO, arrived in NYC abt. 1902. Married
to Henya Ottman (>from Gomel, Belaruse?) they had eight children....Nat,
Sam, Sammy, Charlie, Clara, Anna, Helen and Elsie.

Hillel also had a relationship with a women named Fannie >from Kovna,
Russia. In 1907 he had a son named Pincus, born in NYC. They moved to
Chicago and in 1912 had another son named Isador.

I am trying to locate descendents of Hillel and Fannie in Chicago. Hillel
died in 1932 in Michigan. I have information that tells me he was buried
in Chicago (Cook County). My father remembers going to the
funeral....yet, no cemetery in Chicago has information on him.

The funeral home listed tells me he was buried in NYC????

Any help would be appreciated. Please e-mail me privately.

Forgive me, I feel it is necessary to check with all of the JRI lists that I
am subscribed to
As we do not know where they came >from but think they may have been related

They may be >from one of the following families - DEAN, HARRIS. VISHNEFSKY,

My cousin Colin has given me this photo and thinks that they could have
connection to one or more of the above names.

The first names he seems to recall that may be connected to the photo,
somehow are, David, Abraham, Annie, Patrick and Marion, Stanley.

Colin would be most grateful to have someone confirm this.

Perhaps you can remember the individuals, or have a similar photo in you own
