Dear Genners,
I ordered, and payed for, copies of Naturalization Papers >from the Kings County Clerk's Office in New York. Unfortunately, they are not the people I had hoped they were. I will be glad to e-mail copies to anyone who thinks the following people may be part of their family. The people are: ISIDOR RUDNICK- Photographer - 187 Grand Street, Brooklyn, NY SCHLEIME FERDMAN/SAMUEL FELDMAN- Wife Fanny - >from Orchiv, Russia For ISIDOR RUDNICK I have just the Declatation of Intention. However, the Ferdman papers are six pages and include the Declaration and Petition. It will probably take a few minutes to download. Please e-mail me at msnodrog@yahoo.com Hope Gordon

Lauren Shulsky Orenstein
In researching my great-grandmother's family, I have come up with more
blanks than successes. She, Rose Gillman Altman, came to the US, through Philadelphia, around 1910 with her older sister. My grandmother tells me that Rose was >from Ritziv in Zhitomer Gubernia, but all of my searches of the Shtetel Seeker, and Zhitomer site, etc. have come up empty. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this name in the area? Obviously, the spelling could be drastically off. Also, does anyone know if I can access Philadelphia immigration records on- line at all? Getting her info >from that could help a great deal. Please contact me directly unless there is something of general interest. Thanks so much for any advice. Lauren Shulsky Orenstein OrensAL@aol.com New York, NY

State Archives in Bielsko-Biala
#general
Nancy Ring Kendrick <bogus@...>
I am trying to obtain some records >from the State Archives in
Bielsko-Biala. This process is a bit confusing to me so my hope is that the list members will be able to guide me. Based on information obtained by a professional researcher in Poland we know the following and hope it is sufficient enough information to order with: "Bernhard RING was born March 23, 1883 in Bystra, house number 8. Bernhard RING and was the son of Herman RING and Helene (Leni) BLOCH." I would like to order the birth record >from the State Archive in Bielsko - Biala. I would also be interested death records or cemetery records for the following: Herman RING died in Bystra house number 8, in 21.07.1884. Burial Jewish cemetery in Bielsko-Aleksandrowice, grave number: F-VIII-2272. "Salca (Sali) RING was born in Bystra in house number 8. She died April 13, 1881 in Bystra. She was the daughter of Herman RING and Helene (Leni) BLOCH. Sali is buried in the Jewish cemetery in Bielsko-Aleksandrowice in children sector "D". "In 1885 a baby was born to Herman RING and Helene (Leni) BLOCH in Bystra. The child died during birth and was not named. The baby is buried in Jewish cemetery in Bielsko-Aleksandrowice in children sector "D". According to the researcher: "This is informations >from Jewish record books, census of city, tax and bussiness records - >from The State Archive in Bielsko-Biala. In Archive not exist documentation >from Bystra becuase (sic) all archive of Bystra was destroyed by fire on war time. This is result of two days research of Ring family >from Bielsko/Bystra [Bielitz/Bystrau]." In searching JRI-Poland I located the following for a "regional" archives branch: Oddzial w Bielsku-Bialej, 43-300 Bielsko-Biala, ul. Slowackiego 80/82 - Tel: 22-648 Would this be the appropriate branch to send to for the records? In reading "Ordering Records >from Polish State Archives - Expansion of JRI-Poland's New System (http://www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl/psa/neworder.htm)," I do not notice any specific listing for State Archive in Bielsko-Biala. Is it possible that the Bielsko-Biala State Archives Records are contained within one of those listed below ( I would prefer to order thru JRI-Poland should this be possible)? AGAD - Central Archive of Historical Records Bialystok Lomza Branch Czestochowa Kalisz Krakow Lublin Lodz Poznan Przemysl Rzeszow Siedlce Suwalki Warsaw Grodzisk Mazowiecki Branch ** Lowicz Branch Mlawa Branch Pultusk Branch Zamosc Sincere thanks for any assistance you might offer. vagaries of spelling
#yiddish
Gene Warech <operawriter@...>
While looking through the Album of the Yiddish Theatre, encouraged by
the moderator's index of names, I found three photos of Kalmen Yuvelir. But the index, it seemed, only cited one photo of my great uncle Yuvelir. A further search through the index showed three photos indexed under Juvelier. That is the way the name is spelled in the English translation of the Yiddish captions in the Album. I will now go back to find the fourth photo. The name is spelled the same in Yiddish in all the captions, but whoever (in 1936) translated was inconsistent in transliteration. This is of course a problem facing all of us in the course of looking for the Jewish past. I am mentioning it because the moderator suggested that I should and as yet another hortatory motion to perhaps help others looking for people by name in the Album to try all possible spellings.
