Pinkas HaNitzolim II -- Register of Jewish Survivors II #poland #warsaw

Peter Lebensold <lebensold@...>

A couple of names that might be relevant to my search have turned up - in
Jewish Gen's Holocaust Database - as appearing on page 161 of Pinkas
HaNitzolim II, the Register of Jewish Survivors II.

My questions are the following:

- Am I likely to find out any more than name and current (1945) location if
I were to get a look at the actual page? Like birth date, parents' names,
pre-war address?

- And how might I obtain a copy of the page in question?

Thanks.

Warsaw Gymnasium and school records #warsaw #poland

George Mason <gmason3815@...>

My father attended the Warsaw Gymnasium in the 1920s. Can anyone tell me
where it was located and does it still exist? Did a Gymnasium offer
elementary and secondary education or just secondary/high school education?
Can anyone refer me to a picture of it? Where could I locate my father's
school records? He also attended the University of Warsaw in the 1930s. Does
anyone have an email or postal address for their school records archives
department?
Thank You,
George Mason (Mozeson)

The Rewards #general

Robert Dodell <RADodell@...>

I just found a 1st cousin, once-removed, who was "lost" to my side of the
family. Hooked them up with my aunt, who has been wondering what has
happened to them for 30 years . It makes all the time on this all worth it

I don't know the geography here. Are these two pieces of

Pulawy (the 'L' crossed) is about 45km NW of Lublin. Majdanek is,

Russian Translation #general

Judy Wolkovitch <judywolk@...>

I have a letter typewritten in Russian. It is two pages long double
spaced. It is not very long but has a lot of names and dates. If anyone
would be willing to translate this for me I would be most grateful. In
return I would be happy to do some research in Los Angeles.

Many thanks,

German and Austrian Jewish refugees serving in British army in WW2. #general

Willie Glaser

This web site gives very intersting information about refugee soldiers in
the British army, specifically No.3 (Jewish) Troop, No. 10 Commando.
http://www.alliedspecialforces.org/3jewishtroop10commandohistory.htm

This site lists a roll of honour with some 20 names of refugee soldiers
serving with the No. 3 (Jewish) Troop, No. 10 Commando, who were killed in
action.
www.alliedspecialforces.org/3jewishtroop10commandorollofhonour.htm

It is assumed, that many of these soldiers arrived in England on
"Kindertransports" and in many case their parents, who were still in
Germany/Austria perished in the Shoah.

Re: Port of Philadelphia arrival...how to find #general

Carol W. Skydell <cwskydell@...>

While Barbara asked for private responses, perhaps the moderator will
allow this public response since it is apparent we have many newbies
joining the list, needful of some very basic information.

First, any questions regarding passenger manifests might well be answered
by Warren Blatt's basic primer on doing Jewish genealogical research and
one of the first places all newcomers should visit....the JewishGen
FAQ ( numero uno <g> on our home page ) www.jewishgen.org

Warren discusses passenger manifests among 19 additional categories listed
in the Table of Contents. This document is a must for all beginners...and
even folks like me who have been at it since 1995!.

And, to Barbara's specific question regarding an arrival into Philadelphia
in 1909....

Philadelphia was among the major eastern ports and served as the "welcome
to the U.S." since 1800. The Merion was an American Line ship regularly
serving the Liverpool to Philadelphia route.

Passenger manifests can be viewed at a variety of places, but the closest
will most likely be one of the more than 2600 local Family History Centers
operated by the Mormons throughout the world. To find the closest center
to where you live, visit the online service operated by the Mormons at
www.familysearch.org
and in the paragraphs in the extreme right hand columns you will find the
link to locating a center near you. The FAQ has a link >from #13 Mormon
Family History Centers.

Folks, nobody was born knowing all this stuff and it is no poor reflection
on those who are just starting and don't know where to turn for help. The
help is all here at JewishGen and all we can ask is that you explore it
all, starting with the FAQ .

And once you find out how to find the information you seek, we hope you
will find it in your hearts to say thanks for all JewishGen provides
http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/Contribute.html

If you are able to donate $100 you are automatically eligible for the
JGFFAlert which notifies you via immediate e-mail if anyone enters a name
that matches a listing you have in the JGFF!

Good luck to all and happy hunting...and most importantly **finding**!
