Genealogical department of the Center for Research on Dutch #general

Ben Noach <bnnch@...>

The genealogical department of the Center for Research on Dutch Jewry
(Hebrew University-Jerusalem) has resumed full-fledged activities,
after a partial stagnation of over two years.

The department shall again gladly receive genealogies, based on Dutch
Jewish roots, to be added to its Dutch Jewish Genealogical Data Base
(the DJGDB), either digitalized in gedcom format, or hand-made,
to be digitalized by the team of volunteers of the department.
We shall also gladly consider absorbing other genealogical
material, that has a bearing on Dutch Jewish genealogy.
(The department does not do any genealogical research of its own,
but maintains a "response group" to assist in resolving individual
genealogical queries).

For additional information, please contact:-

Ben Noach-E-Mail address:-bnnch@zahav.net.il

On behalf of the Genealogical Department of the
Center for Research on Dutch Jewry,

Ben Noach-Coordinator of genealogical activities.

The website of the Dutch Jewish Genealogical Data Base (DJGDB)
can be reached at:-

http://dutchjewry.huji.ac.il/maineng/upload/genealogy/main.html

We also draw attention to the In Memoriam database,
regrettably closely related to Dutch Jewish genealogical research:-

They had 8 children, the youngest of which, Joseph, was my grandfather.
Any information would be appreciated. Many thanks.
My comment:

The Theresienstadt Memorial Book has an entry for a survivor

RINDSKOPF Rosa, born 11 Dec 1878 who had been deported with transport
II/26 >from Munich/Nuernberg on 24 Sep 1942.

On the same transport was

RINDSKOPF Ignaz, born 27 Dec 1871.

There are two more RINDSKOPF entries for deportees >from Duesseldorf and
Cologne.

Let me know if you see any connection,

with kind regards

Is this directory a street/phone book?
How can one in South Africa obtain this directory?
Or is there someone kind enough to look up for me.
I am looking for the name Smiltnieks or Smiltneek.

I was just informed that the Archives of the Latvians and Estonians
at Shefayim also possess a copy in English of 1936 Directory >from
Latvia. So any of you living in Israel is in luck, as are all of you
who decide to come to the 24th IAJGS International Conference on
Jewish Genealogy in Jerusalem (July 4-9, 2004).

Prof Gilbert Herbert <herbert@...>

Zvi Hirsh ben Mendel Paikin (1915-1998) was a composer whose family
origins were in Dvinsk, and earlier in Drissa. He came to live in
Israel in the 1980s or 1990s. I have a tape recording of some of his
compositions, which he gave me when I met him shortly before his death,
entitled "Libi b'mizrach." There is a Jerusalem telephone number on the
tape, 02-767327, but as I have not kept in touch I do not know if it is
still relevant.

Best wishes,
Gilbert Herbert

Hello all,
After some time of disconnection I came back to my computer, to find out
that the emails data base was corrupted. The back up didn't include the
emails of the last 2 months. Hence, I would appreciate if anyone who wrote
to me (especially regarding the Novogrudok research group) will re-send
his/her letter.

I appologize for the inconvinience.

METRIC BOOKS FOR BREST JEWISH COMMUNITY FOR 1820 - 1895

We are in the process of having a professional research firm conduct a
search of the 30 Metric Books in the NATIONAL HISTORICAL ARCHIVES OF
BELARUS in Minsk that contain birth, marriage and death entries for the
Brest Jewish Community for the period of 1895 - 1915.

We now want to start a private Metric Book search for Surnames in the
Brisk or Brest-Litovsk area that cover an earlier period of 1820 - 1895.

Does anyone have any information about these 1820 - 1895 Metric Books
for the Brest Jewish Community?
. Are they in existence?
. Where might they be archived?
