Hi.
I've just uncovered a new branch of my family and I've learned that a
distant cousin is possibly serving as an MP in the US Army. I don't have a

trying to find her?

Thanks for your help.

Like many other inquiries, this one is easily answered by making a Google
search on appropriate terms. In this case, for example, I searched for the
terms 'us army' and 'adjutant general', which rapidly led me to the website
of The Adjutant General: https://www-perscom.army.mil/tagd/

If you start there, I have no doubt that you will be able to find your
relative.

I commend to users of this forum, and of others like it, the use of Google
or similar search engines.

First Names Anweesa and Kolya #general

Rusty Wilson <rusty.wilson@...>

I recently posted 2 photographs on Viewmate (they've since been removed) and
several people kindly provided translations of the text on the back. The
first was in Yiddish >from about 1927, showed a mother and 3 daughters and
apparently said "To my dear and beloved daughter Anweesa". I assume the
writer was Anweesa. I've never heard of a name resembling Anweesa - has
anyone else? Is there a variant that would make sense?

The second was in Russian, was >from the same time period, showed a mother
and daughter and said "For good memory >from Kolya and Frida..." One
translator pointed out that Kolya was likely Nikolai, but the photo clearly
shows a mother and daughter. Could Kolya be a girl's name?

Thanks in advance for your help.

PRESMAN and VEKSLER #ukraine

tatiana tariverdi <tatianamal@...>

Sorry, I gave the wrong surname, it should be VEKSLER.
VEKSLER were relative of PRESMAN but PRESMAN lived in
Berdichev, Ukraine, while VEKSLER lived in Donesk.

May be MARK PRESMAN(died in aprx 1925-30, had two
children, my grandfather BORIS and his sister ADA who
lived in Georgia) had brothers or sisters, I know that
in Soviet times somebody >from USA was looking for
their relatives, but my family was afraid to respond.

Actually, Berdichev was a small town, so may be all
PRESMANs were somehow related to each other.
If anybody knows anything about it, I would really
appreciate.

Almost missed this thread!
My Great-Grandfather's name was Leib Chonow FRUCHT. Various documents list
him as Elchanon, Abram, and Leon!

Sylvia Furshman Nusinov

Subject: Yiddish Name Itzchak Chona
The general consensus is the the name was Itzchak Elchonon (Variables:
Elchanan, Elkhonnen) Variations of Chona such as Chono, Chuna, Chunya,
Chanan and Khana were suggested. One response indicated it might be
Chanach (Enoch).

Many with the various Chona related names were also Hymans.

Searching descendants of Dayan Boruch Ick BEJNSZTEJN (1835-1910) #general

Saul Marks <saulmarks@...>

Dear All,

Boruch Ick BEJNSZTEJN was a dayan in & around the village of Radzilow, in
Lomza Gubernia. He was born there & he died there. I am searching for the
descendants of his first marriage, to Mariaszka KOWALSKA. She was born in
1836 & died either in 1874 or around 1881. The children of this marriage
were:

1. Krejna BEJNSZTEJN (b.1858/9), who married Janiel Josel DROLNIK
(b.1859/60) in 1878.

2. Moszk BEJNSZTEJN (b.1864). I have no details of any marriage of his.

3. Malka Gutla BEJNSZTEJN (b.1866), who married Szelma Ezra ELTERMAN
(b.1870/1) in 1889.

4. Chackiel BEJNSZTEJN (b.1869). I have no details of any marriage of his.

5. Chaja Fejga BEJNSZTEJN (b.1874). I have details of almost all her
descendants.

6. Abram BEJNSZTEJN (b.1881). Family legend states that Mariaszka died a few
weeks after Chaja Fejga's birth, in 1874, but Abram's military record gives
Mariaszka as his mother. This could be a mistake, & Abram could be a child
of Boruch's second marriage.

I would be delighted to hear >from anyone who recognises any of these names,
or even just the BEJNSZTEJN, DROLNIK & ELTERMAN surnames.

Best wishes for 2004,
