Does anyone know how to find a birth certificate from Poland 1924 ROZENBAUM? #poland #records

mbekken@...

At the time of his birth, Pruzhany was in Poland I believe, tho at other times it is in Russia/BelaRus. I am looking for the birth certificate for Aron (aka Mordechai Aharon ben Tzvi ha Levi) ROZENBAUM from March 1924 or his father, Tzvi (or Hersl). I have a paper he signed at the DP camp after the war that said his birthday and parents, but am trying to find a copy of the birth certificate. He did have one, I believe, as the DP document said it was "lost".

Does the 1939 UK Register include Scotland?  If not, was there an equivalent survey for Scotland?  Thanks.

Re: Vinitsky/Winitsky from Detroit, Mich. #usa

Steve Pickoltz

With regard to my post dealing with Vinitsky/Winitsky from Detroit, I have been asked to supply additional facts.  So here goes.

My family arrived in the USA on April 5, 1909 by way of Liverpool, England aboard the SS Frieland  into Phila., Pa.  My grandparents were Chaje (Ida) (Ostroff) Winitzky changed at some time to Winitsky.  Her husband was Hyman Winitsky who died in Rochester, NY.  The family came to Phila. and stayed with the family of (Sam??) Derschwitz.  I think he was a relative on my grandmother’s Ostroff side.  My grandmother was born in Kiev, Russia and then lived in what is now Dnepropetrovak, Ukraine with her family.

Hyman Winitsky’s parents’ were to the best of my knowledge Gerhan Winitsky and Buckel (not sure if this is first or last name).

The Vinitskys in my tree are so far are David and Lazar.

My grandmother’s parents were Leah Ostroff, father unknown, and a sister Rebecca (Winitsky) Ostroff, husband Benjamin Ostroff.

The Detroit relatives, names written on old pictures are Lorraine Ann Chudler who married a Day.  Another cousin may have been Henrietta Rofsky.

I know there are other Detroit relatives, but I haven’t found their pictures yet.

Again, I hope this info will help some of you, help me.

Re: Autosomal Analysis Question #dna

Dan Nussbaum

It is well known among Physicians that there are two types of ear wax. One is lumpy and wet and the other is flaky and dry.

The lumpy wet one is more common in people of European and African ancestry and thought to be a recessive characteristic. The flaky dry one is more common in people of East Asian and Native American ancestry and thought to be a dry characteristic.

This is purely anecdotal, but once I learned of the two different types of ear wax, I noticed a higher incidence of flaky dry ear wax in my Jewish patients. Unfortunately, I never did a real study.

Does anyone know how to obtain the actual documents of those who were transported to, detained in, and murdered in Chelmno Extermination Camp?  We have a large portion of our family who tragically met with such fate, and have no idea how to get all records pertaining to each of our family members.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello. I believe Alfred Mendel worked with/for my grandfather Hans Adalbert Frank - furrier in Berlin and Leipzig. Could it be the same petson? Also with your surname would you be related to Sophie Horowitz from Leipzig?

Re: Immigration from Poland to England #unitedkingdom

Ancestry.co.uk does  have naturalisation records, which often give the names of parents and more exact places of birth. However, naturalisation was an expensive process until the middle of the 20th century. If family members were still in England at that time,  the 1939 Registration, a very informative proto-census is available on Ancestry.co.uk in the Card Catalogue if you dig deep anough. It is more easily found on FindmyPast. Make a point of looking at the original manuscript, not the index.
Children in this census are usually blacked out, but later married names of young women and name-alterations were added to the documents during the wartime years.

You often see people named Rochel Leah. Rivka Leah is not particularly common, but not impossible. (Leah often becomes Lena.)
