BAIERSDORF Info & ViewMate Translation #rabbinic

Eliagil Roos <eliagil.roos@...>

Dear genners,

ViewMate has agreed to extend my posting -- vm2781 -- for another
week.

I hope somebody will be able to decipher what is written in
Occidental Yiddish on the envelope painted in this pseudo collage in
praise of Rabbi David DISPECK (1715 - 1793). On the left side can
be seen part of the Shir Hamaaloth sung before the Birkat Hamazon
(Psalm 126).

This Mizrach is the work of Joel BAIERSDORF, one of Rabbi David's
grandsons. Does anyone know exactly who he was? The places of
Diespeck and Baiersdorf are in Franconia, Bavaria.

The file is up on the ViewMate site:
http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate
in the "To View" section as file vm2781.

Respond privately please to eliagil.roos@libertysurf.fr

Shalom to all and good luck

Alexander Hassidim #rabbinic

Avigdor&Laia <lbendov@...>

I am researching my ancestors in Poland and found a reference to a
Hassidic sect called Alexander. The time was in the late 1880s and
I thought perhaps this reference >from the Sokoly Yizkor Book would
give me more info. about my relatives. There is no detail given
beyond the name of the sect. Does anyone know who the Rav Alexander
was and >from which town? Poland was under Russian domination then
and maybe the reference points to Russia under the Czar Alexander?

Could my Danish ancestors (Fischmann) be descended from Polish Jews? #scandinavia

Lance Fishman <fishman@...>

Greetings,

I am new to this group and would like to introduce myself.

My name is Lance Fishman, I live in Melbourne, Australia and am descended
from Danish Lutherans on my father's side
There is, however, some belief that the Fischmann family originated as
Polish Jews, but my knowledge of my paternal ancestors only goes back to the
early nineteenth century.

The earliest confirmed Danish Fischmann in our family was Johanne Marie
Fischmann (nee Holm) who was born in 1777 and married in 16 Sept 1808 at
Garnisons Sogn. We believe that her husband was Johann Freidrich Fishman but
this is conjecture at this time.

Having done some research on the internet, I have discovered that Fischmann
is a common German/Yiddish name. Is it also a a Danish name or possibly
from somewhere else?
I have also found that there was one Fischmann buried in the Mosaisk Vestre
Cemetry in Copenhagen 1886-1955.

Finally; On checking another area of JewishGen searching for Fischmann, I
get a lot of Fiszman hits. Is this a Polish or other variation of the name?

Thanks in advance

A brief history of the RIVLIN family was published in Hebrew in the
1980's in conjunction with a world wide family meeting in Jerusalem.
I have a copy.

FLEMINGER Family #general

Peter Zinn <havlazz@...>

Hello, I am new to this list, and am most grateful to Hennie Ann Roth
(a regular contributor to this list) for showing me the way to it!

In the 19th Century the Flemingers lived mostly in the Czernowitz area
(now Southern Ukraine) and spread >from there to all corners of the
globe. I am trying to trace all of the branches and connect them, also
to learn more about the origins of the family (perhaps >from Flanders).

My ggf Samuel b. 1853 in Sadigura moved to England via Odessa and
Constantinople abt. 1899. He and his wife Yetta Goldberg died in
England in 1919, following which almost all their children upped and
moved to South Africa. Now, of course, this branch has moved on and is
to be found almost everywhere, including Israel where I now live.

I have found references of JRI Poland to other Flemingers in Galizian
shtetls north of Czernowitz, and am tracking other branches which made
it to England, the US, Germany, the Netherlands etc.

Since this surname is highly unusual, I would love to hear from
anybody with knowledge or interest in this surname.

With thanks

Re: Town Name: "Yezershani" #general

On Aug.27, 03 Merle Kastner (merlek@videotron.ca) asked:

<< Can anyone suggest what the name of this town would have been at that
time, and what it would be today, and also in what country, as it is known
today?>>

Chester G. Cohen's "Shtetl Finder Gazetter's" entry for this name as
spelled by the inquirer referred me to page where a town spelled
as "Uziran," or "Yezerzani," or "Jezierzany" is listed. It is southeast
of Lvov and south of and close to Chortkov. A yizkor book for this town
was published in 1959. Cohen also says that nearby villages described in
the "Sefer Usiran Vehasviv" include "Biltch," "Lanovitz," and "Kozatchina."

There is no entry for "Uziran" in my old "Columbia-Lippincott Gazetteer"
but Jewishgenner Susana Leister Bloch has set up a page for the town,
showing even more spellings for it as well as its map coordinates at:

www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/Suchostav/SuchostavRegion/sl_jezierzany.htm

At the above website one can click on history of "Jezierzany" which has

TASHLITSKY family...link to Malbim #general

I am seeking information on my uncle, Samuel KAPLAN, DOB 4/27/04. He came
under the name Igyja Kaplun on the SS President Wilson to NY out of
Trieste, Austria, on 11/26/21 or (possibly) 11/30/22.

He as born in Zastawi Wolin Ukraine Russia.

His father was known as Harry Kaplan or Tashlitsky and also as Herse
Faslicki and his mother as Sarah Tashlitsky.

I have a manifest no. for the SS Pres. Wilson. Can anyone help me locate
where I might get hard copy or online lookup?

Any other links, contacts, &c. to the above information would be
appreciated. My uncle had a purported connection to the Malbim as well,
though that is even less clear.
