to several family members buried at West View Cemetery in Pittsburgh. I had
tried twice to 'purchase' these photos. Both times I was told they would be in
the mail within days! Needless to say, I never received the photos. A while
back, I noticed a posting about the Pittsburgh Jewish cemetery project and
wrote to Robert. Yesterday, he e-mailed me images of all the headstones. He is

A cousin of my grandfather, Berta SCHWIDKAY/SHVIDKOY born c.1885 was an
actress in the Kiev Yiddish Theater probably >from about 1910. Our last
contact with her was in 1925 when my grandfather's brother immigrated to
Canada.

I would like to know whether actresses in the Kiev Yiddish Theater went by
their maiden names or their married names.

If SCHWIDKAY/SHVIDKOY was her maiden name then her mother's maiden name was
MILEVSKY. If SCHWIDKAY/SHVIDKOY was her married name then her maiden may
have been MILEVSKY.

Her mother or father was born in Zhashkov which is also where she may have
been born.

If anyone has any biographical material at all on Berta SCHWIDKAY/SHVIDKOY

I am looking for a Maurice HERSCHLIKOWITZ. His brother was Jozsif
Herschlikowitz. Jozsif became a naturalized citizen in
1928 and changed his name to Joseph HERSCH and resided in
Chicago, IL, USA until his death in January of 1941.

The last known address that I have for Maruice was 16 Rue Bleu 16,
Paris France and was on an envelope addressed to my
grandfather, Joseph. I don't have the date of the letter
but my guess it could not have been past 1941.

I do not speak French so I am a little unsure of how to
research this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My GGGF was Jehuda PRUGER. He had at least 2 children:
Morris & Gussie

Gussie (Chaia) [1886-1929] married Mendal Warschawsky and
emigrated to the USA in 1912.

Morris (Moshe) married Etta Zeldich. He was apparently a
successful tailor. They had 4 children, one of which was
William (Wolf, Velva PRUGER/PRAGER) who was born in 1896
and emigrated to the America around 1913. As far I
know, the rest of the family never emigrated. Contact was
lost with the family during WWII.

Any information concerning the PRUGER family >from Kiev or
Wassilkow would be appreciated
