Many thanks to everyone who replied to my message about
the Kalman/Kiel family name. I also received an
incredible number of viruses, I assume as a result of my
message, and while I was able to delete them without
downloading them, I'm afraid I also inadvertently
deleted at least one genuine message (subject: Kalman,
I think). I have replied personally to all messages
I received, so if you wrote to me and haven't had an
acknowledgement, perhaps you could resend the message.

Thanks,

Brenda Jerome

How to get more from a grave in UK? #general

Nicolas Trokiner <paulsimon@...>

Hello,

A brother of my great-grandmother went to UK
at the beginning of the century. His last name was
Shulner. I found a postcard of who I think to be
his daughter, Lily Shulner, >from 1928.

Shulner is a quite rare name. I can't find any in
the UK white pages but a quick search on Google
led me to a listing of names in Enfield (or
Carterhatch Lane) jewish cemetery

There are 2 entries:
- SHULNER Bernard who died in 1962
- SHULNER Sonia who died in 1950

This is my only clue. That's why I would like:
1) to know more about those 2 people maybe thanks
to a picture of the grave
2) to know more on their descendants by consulting
the registery of the cemetery and looking for the owner.

Can someone assist me in these tasks? Also do you
see any other possibility to find the descendance
of this lost relative? If he had only 1 daughter the
name changed. Can we consult the ketubot or marriage acts?

Thanks a lot

Searching for ABRAHAMSON descendants #general

Jill Anderson <jill.anderson@...>

Dear Group

I am searching for descendants of my grandfather's
sister and brother. His name was Maurice Abrahamson,
from Lithuania and he and his brother Marks settled
in London in 1907. Their mother, Hannah (Annie)
Abrahamson (who may have used the name "Leibowitz")
and their sister Rachel (Norr) went to the USA.
I have found the Norr side of the family, but I
know that there was at least one other sister and
at least one other brother who, I would imagine,
also went to the US.

Here are the details that I have at the moment:
Jacob Abrahmson married Hannah Schuster (born c. 1856).
Their children were Marks (Menachem Mendel, born 1880),
Maurice,(Yisroel Moshe,born 1885) and Rachel (Rochel
Itta, born c. 1889). Marks was born in Rokiskis.
Rachel married Sam Norr in 1905 and they both went to
live in Brooklyn NY. Maurice and Marks lived in London.

If anyone has any information about this family,
would they please contact me privately.
Many thanks

There is a copy of the book on sale on a well-known auction site. There are also sample pages.

Lots of group pictures but I could see no evidence that individuals are named.

Jefferson Street, Bronx - 1915 Census #general

Richard Cooper <ric@...>

I am trying to find my great-granduncle A.SZAPOSNIKOFF.
My great-aunt Clara's husband Leib GRANITUR arrived
at Ellis Island on 'The President Lincoln' on
11 May 1914. He was sponsored by his 'uncle'
(in fact his wife's uncle) A.SZAPOSNIKOFF of
631 Jefferson Street, Bronx, NY. So I figured it
was a fair bet I could find A.SZAPOSNIKOFF there
in the 1915 Census. However, not only
could I find not SZAPOSNIKOFF (or SHAPOCHNIKOV etc)
on the 1915 Census of NYC (LDS reel 0523276),
but the numbers on Jefferson Street, Bronx did
not go up to 631!

Any suggestions would be most welcome - TIA!

Name change:BUIUMOVICI to EGER #romania

David and Marcia Chamovitz <chamodm@...>

With the professional assistence of Dr. Ladislau Gyemant in Romania I can
now confirm that at birth in Daraban, Romania in 1887 my mother's name was
Malka BUIUMOVICI (pronounced Buyumovich), daughter of Herscu. Sometime
before or on arrival in the USA in 1899 she became Mollie EGER as did her
parents and 9 siblings.
What I do not know is why they chose the name Eger. They were orthodox in
practice but were not otherwise learned.so trying to connect with the Rabbi
Akiba Eger dynasty does not seem plausable. (Three of the Rabbi Egers were
also named Bunim.) And Eger was a town and a river in Hungary. Any
suggestions?
