Re: KAUMHEIMER and BAMBERGER of Burgkunstadt, Oberfranken, Bavaria #germany

Fritz Neubauer

David Marblestone dbmarblestone@msn.com Chevy Chase, Maryland asked
Emilie's husband was Fritz BAMBERGER (born in Mitwitz, Bavaria, on
December 15, 1862). At the time of the 1939 Census, they lived in
Lichtenfels, Bavaria. Emilie and Fritz BAMBERGER were both victims of the
Holocaust.
Dear David,
the Theresienstadt Memorial Book has entries for:

BAMBERGER, Fritz, born 15 Dec 1862
BAMBERGER, Emilie, born 12 Mar 1870
BAMBERGER, Ida, born 16 Jun 1858 and 5 more BAMBERGERs: Anna, Frieda,
another Fritz, Moritz, Theodor)
KAUMHEIMER, Max, born 15 Mar 1869

all deported >from Munich/Nuremberg in 1942.
Let me know if you need any of their dates. With kind regards,

Fritz Neubauer, North Germany

Ida BAMBERGER was also a victim of the Holocaust. Her last known
residence was Munich. I do not know where she lived at the time of the
1939 Census, and I do not have any information on her husband.
I would appreciate receiving any information on the KAUMHEIMER family of
Burgkunstadt or on the families of Emilie and Fritz BAMBERGER and Ida
BAMBERGER.

name "Feitshe"? #romania

David Bendory <david90@...>

Hello siggies,

I found my great-great-grandparents' tombstones on Sunday and found that
my GGGM was named "Feitshe" (Peh-Yud-Yud-Tet-Shin-Ayin). I could not find
this name in the JewishGen given names database. Her American name was
Fannie / Fanny and her name appears in Romanian records as Feige. Is
"Feitshe" just a variant on Feige / Tsippora?

Please reply to me privately unless your response is of interest to the
entire list.

Thank you,

Location of Saleije? #lithuania

I have been completely stymied in determining the town of origin of the
Wilkorisky branch of my family. I'm fairly certain the family came >from the
Vilna area. The passenger list manifest lists the town as "Saleije." Does
anyone have any suggestions on what town this could be? Other family members
list their town of origin as Vilna and "Ivanchain" (which, given the
handwriting, could also be Warsaw, written as Warszawa).

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

JRI-Poland's streamlined order system, by which
researchers can order using a credit card number,
has been in a pilot project at the Bialystok
and Lomza Archives. Because things have worked
smoothly with the pilot project, it is very soon
due to be extended to most other archives
in the Polish State Archive system.

If you are preparing to order records you have
found in the JRI-Poland database, you may want to
wait (we estimate no more than a month or
so) to use the new, far more convenient system.

Re: photos of Warsaw #warsaw #poland

Peter Lebensold <lebensold@...>

I, too, am a big fan of "Getto Warsawskie" (825 pp.) - which I purchased =
at
the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw a year ago - and am surprised =
that
it has not yet been translated into any other language. For me, despite =
its
being in Polish, I found the maps alone worth the price - especially the =
one
which superimposes a map of pre-WWII Warsaw over a map of Warsaw as it
exists today: With so many streets having disappeared or (even more
confusingly) having changed direction, and with some pre-WWII buildings
having been turned around (!), it's essential for anyone who's wandering =
the
city seeking remnants of the old Ghetto.

Even if no English publisher were interested, if it were to appear in
French, that would certainly make it a great deal more easily accessible =
for
many of us.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, Giselle - but thank you very much for
drawing our attention to the "Architecture of Prewar Warsaw" (
www.warszawa1939.prv.pl
) website.

I think your suggestions make a lot of sense: Is there no member of this
group who can write Polish - to inquire about incorporating
non-architectural photographs (like the ones that Stefan Mucha has been
collecting), and about possibly translating it into English?
