seeking Mario Mandelbaum in Argentina #belarus

Lauglick@...

Dear Group:

My husband is trying to find a long-lost cousin by the name of Mario
Mandelbaum, who was last known to have been living in Argentina. The family came
originally for the area of Chelm, Poland. My husband's father and the rest of the
family (named Sussman/Zyssman) came to New York in the 1920's, and there are
also cousins by the name of Schveigman living in Israel.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to go about searching and hopefully
locating this cousin?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I have a family bible that belonged to my great grandfather Aaron Damie.

Race around the world, Bar Kochba 1927 #lithuania

Melissa J Wills <calicobabies@...>

Hi,
Does anyone have any info on a race around the world with the Bar Kochba
Jewish Athletic Club in Lithuania in 1927? The teams were competing for
a $15,000 prize. My great-grandfather, ZUNDEL RUBIN and his brother
NOSSIN RUBIN were in this race. They made it as far as Las Angeles, CA.
ZUNDEL's book with signatures, stamps and newspaper clippings >from all
over Europe and the U.S. is still in the family, but we have no other
information about this event. If anyone knows anything about this,
please let me know! Thanks!

The rabbinical BERNSTEIN family of Galicia and Holland is covered in
detail in Ateres Yehoshua. They are descendants of the Pnei Yehoshua.
I don't have the book in front of me, but I'm fairly sure that this
is the family you're looking for.

SALANT and Nachalat Shiva #rabbinic

Menachem Butler <menachembutler@...>

Rav SIGgers,

I am also looking for information about Rabbi Joseph Zundel SALANT
(my g-g-g-g-g-grandfather) and his son Rabbi Yehuda Arieh Leib
SALANT (my g-g-g-g-grandmother's brother) regarding the latter's
role in developing Nachalat Shiva (the first Jewish neighborhood of
Jerusalem built in modern times outside the walls of the Old City).

It is well known that one of the seven founders of the neighborhood
was Rabbi Benjamin Benish SALANT, son of Rabbi Shmuel SALANT (my
g-g-g-g-grandfather who married Toiba, the daughter of Rabbi Joseph
Zundel SALANT). I have yet to see any information which makes
mention of a connection regarding Nachalat Shiva between Rabbi
Yehuda Arieh Leib SALANT and his nephew Rabbi Benjamin Benish
SALANT, and I was wondering if anyone has seen anything which
exists.

If anyone has any suggestions of books which describe Jerusalem of
the late 1800's, I look forward to hearing the suggestions.

In any event, I look forward to hearing >from you soon.
Shabbat Shalom,
Menachem Butler

Palestine Foundation Fund #belarus

Boris Krantz <Boris@...>

I recently obtained a letter my father sent in 1948 to a nephew in Israel.
In that letter, he explained that the Palestine Foundation Fund (42nd
Street, New York City) had located him in Massachusetts and had identified
this Israeli relative.

I would like to search that file of this Fund, to determine additional
information regarding my other family members it might have identified in
post-World War II Europe.

Does anyone have any such experience or thoughts?

Thanks,
