Looking for *any* information on Abraham SALATA (possibly named: Avrom Ben Chaim) #sephardic

Izhar Atzmon <izharatzmon@...>

My great grand father Abraham SALATA (Avrom Ben Chaim) point of origin
not known.

He as born around 1850-1870 and spoke Ladino, Russian and Polish. May
have either arrived (himself) or been the offspring of newly arrived
Sepharadim. Family was well known in Saloniki until World War II
Abraham is said to have strted out >from Tifilis >from where he migrated
West. He was alldgedly a pedler who had a horsedrawn wagen.

His wife (Charlotte FEDERSTOCK (Lotte) was also known as Leah Federstock)
and him arrived in the Grand Duchy of Warsaw (>from Kiev) sometime during
the 1890's.  They had 3 sons.  My Grand Father- Chaim David (date of
birth 1898)...next in line was Meyer, and the youngest son was Roman.

He died of unknown causes at an unknown date while still a young man.
His wife and 3 young children somehow survived until she was able to open
a live poultry shop in the Ghetto.  This business was thriving (1925-26).
At an unknown date she married a man who was considerably younger than
she.  His name was Yakub Volkowicz.  They had no children.

Thank you!

Czernowitz Ancestor/Relative #romania

Zev Cohen

In the Czernowitz City Directory of 1936 (many thanks to Edgar Hauster
and Martina Lelgemann for the data) there are two listings pertaining
to persons whom I believe are an ancestor and a relative -

VERETENA Mehel - Brutar (Baker), located at Calea Plevnei 44 (I
believe him to be my maternal grandfather)

POLAC Lazar - Croitor (Tailor), located at Calea Costache Negruzzi 13c
( I believe him to be my late mother's first husband).

I would be immensely grateful for any information regarding these two
persons and their families.

Best regards,

Zev Cohen

I've posted three vital records for which I would like translations of
all genealogical information: names, parents' names, dates/ages,
places mentioned, etc.

The first is in Russian. It is a 1903 marriage record of Boruch and
Rajzla Urbas of Klimontow. The image may be found on ViewMate at the

appreciate translations. They are on ViewMate at the following addresses:

I believe that the first record documents the marriage record of my maternal
grandfather, Meyer WAJSENFELD, the second documents the birth record of his
father, my paternal great grandfather, Srul (?) Gerszon, and the third
documents the birth of my great grandfathers brother Moszek.

Acting groups in Warsaw in 1900-1910 and America #yiddish

Hi YandV Research Group,

I need some help locating my Grandparents Acting group.
I have done as much research as I could when I was in NY 3 years ago
and as much online as I could, but I have come up with NOTHING!

My Grandparents names are (were) Abraham (Max) Norflus and Celia
(Goldfarb) Norflus.

Supposedly, as the family stories go, my Grandfather had a small
acting group in Warsaw and that's where he met my Grandmother, when
she auditioned for a part. I don't know the name of the troupe, but it
had to be around 1900 +a few years.

When they came to America, my Grandfather may or may not have had a
little troupe in Dayton, Ohio, But, after all their children were
born, they moved back to NY and I was told, my Grandfather started up
another little group in NY.

I can find NOTHING! Only my Grandfather's cousin's name, Josef
Norflus, comes up under actors.

Can anyone send me in the right direction about this?
I am going to Warsaw in April or May and hope there is somewhere to
look for this info.
Also in NY. I have tried everything that I could find on the web and
checked in the Jewish Historical Society, but to no avail.

Any and all help will be deeply appreciated.

Thank you,
Chandi

not effective thus far. Can anyone here shed light, or point me to

Rosen/Jerusalimski family in Chicago #general

Yonatan Ben-Ari

I recently learned that members of my father-in-law's family came to
Chicago at the end of the 19th cent. They left Grajewo/ Szczuczyn
area. Their names in Europe was Jeruzalimski (or variant) and
eventually shortened it to Rosen.

Two of my F-I-L's cousins were Abe and Joseph (brothers) . Joseph's
wife was Itke Ellenstein.

Is anyone in these forums connected to the above Abe and Joseph?
