US Navy search #general

A first cousin of mine left home in Minneapolis in 1918 aged 15 and never
returned. He reputedly contacted his family once c 1924 to say he was in
the US Navy in San Diego Cal . He may have give a false age and name to
enlist, Would he be required to show any id in a recuiting office 1918
and any ideas on tracing .

"A Tree with No Documents" by Mr. Avraham Sfadia, will be the presentation
at the September meeting of the Tel-Aviv Branch of the Israel Genealogical
Society. Avraham is the present treasurer of IGS and is an active member on
the 2004 conference board. He has been researching the Sfadia family, in
its many spellings, that originates in the city of Halab in Syria.

Avrahm has published articles on this work in "Darchey Eretz - Journal of
the World Center for Aleppo Jews Traditional Culture", and "Shasheret
Hadorot". He has also published articles on genealogical sources on the
peninsula of Iberia.

The meeting will take place on Monday September 8, 2003 at Beit Hatanach,
16 Rothschild Blvd. Tel-Aviv, at 19:00. The meeting will be in Hebrew.
You are cordially invited to use our library which is open >from 18:00-

I suggest that you go to or contact your nearest LDS Family History
Library and request:

Geburten 1828-1838 FHL INTL Film 492822 which is for Births in Hannover
between 1828-38.
It will have an alphabetical index: look for Isaac KAHN.
If found, the microfilm will have the document and you can make a copy on
a microfilm reader.

If there is no FHL handy, write to Salt lake City for a search of that
film and a copy of the document. It may cost you $5 to 20 .

German website listing those who sailed >from Bremen or Bremerhaven
(including those who started their journey in Danzig (now Gdansk))
between the World Wars. The dates range >from Sept. 1920 to May 1928,
and most passengers named appear to be Jewish.
