Look for information about Erna MAAS

In arranging the papers of my paternal family, the Maas family from
Muhlhausen Germany, I have come across an undated clipping related to my paternal aunt, Erna MAAS. The clipping is probably >from the Aufbau, the German Jewish newspaper. The text states (in German) that Martha MARX, 315 Crestview Place, Teaneck, NJ, is looking for Erna MAAS, who was the district director of the Hesse-Nassau, Frankfurt am Main branch, of the Reichvereigung der Juden in Deutschland. We have some documentation concerning Erna's involvement in Kindertransports. However, I was also told that she brought some children with her when she left Germany and turned them over to an agency when she reached NY. I am trying to verify that story as well. We know she sailed on the SS Nyassa of the Hamburg-American Line out of Lisbon on June 3, 1941 (originally scheduled for May 20 but delayed because of engine problems.) The ship landed in NY on June 14. I am interested generally in any information about Erna and specifically how Martha MARX might have known my aunt. Please reply personally. I appreciate your help. (UK) Sephardic Community Launches Genealogy Service Assisting Descendants of Inquisition to Get Spanish and Portuguese Passports
#sephardic
Jan Meisels Allen
With the UK leaving the European Union, "Brexit", The Spanish and Portuguese
Community (S&P) launched an internet-based ancestry tracking service to help those to get EU-qualifying passports. As previously reported, both Spain and Portugal have enacted laws requiring applicants to prove their descent from an Iberian Sephardic ancestor. Once the applicant has supplied therequired evidence under the Spanish or Portuguese laws, the S&P will issue a letter to the appropriate authorities: the Lisbon or Porto communities to the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain. The S&P will also assist those congregants who qualify under the laws of several of the "daughter congregations" of the London Bevis Marks Synagogue, in Barbados and Jamaica. To read more see: http://jewishnews.timesofisrael.com/sephardi-community-launches-genealogy-service/ The S&P was originally founded in 1657, as The Spanish and Portuguese Jews' Congregation of London. The Bevis marks Synagogue opened in 1701 and is still in regular use was not the first Sephardic synagogue in London, but replaced the original synagogue. Jewish Hospital in Uman
#ukraine
jskarf@...
I am wondering if anyone has information about a Jewish hospital that
existed in Uman in the early 1900s. My great-grandmother appeared in the 1897 in this hospital. Other than this reference, I have turned up only a couple of references to various Jews being brought to the Jewish hospital in Uman during the 1919 pogroms. Does anyone have more information about this institution? Thanks, Josh Researching: SHKAROVSKY (Pogrebishche, Bila Tserkov), SPIVAK (Tetiev), WEXELMAN (Bila Tserkov) GERBER (Uman), BARABAK (Pogrebishche)
