After great frustration looking for my relatives, someone I communicated
with >from the Family Finder suggested the Telegraph, a newspaper for the Jewish community in Manchester and other parts of the UK. They have a feature called Roots which allows you to ask your genealogy questions. It brought instant success for the man who suggested it, and it did the same for me. http://www.jewishtelegraph.co.uk/ My newly discovered Manchester relatives assured me all Jews in Manchester read it. Dear Members:
Linda Kern was glad to be able to help look up names of towns in which pogroms took place. She was inundated with requests however, & will have to limit her searches to those she received before today as that is about all she can handle for now. As of now, she will have to turn down any new ones. Thanks for the helping hand Linda. Sincerely, Florence Elman Ukraine SIG Coordinator haflo@shaw.ca

Re: OCHINSKY BEER

Rafi Guber
Dear David,
One of the great beer centers of Galicia (if not the greatest) was also a town of great Jewish depth and vitality. Brezhesko, known as Brigel in Yiddish, was and still is one of the great beer centers of what is now once again Poland. Located southeast of Krakow and west of Tarnow near Bochnia, and Sanz, it was home to the Vialepole Kollel and I believe it was also the birthplace of the wife of the famous Cantor, Yossele Rosenblatt. At one time a great variety of beers were produced there. I believe currently it is #2 in beer productions among the communities of Poland. David, could Tarnopol possibly be confused with Tarnow in your family lore? It seems like a place worth investigating. Anyone interested in creating a beer SIG? Rafi Guber David Wrote, I am trying to find a lost Aunt and Uncle from Tarnopal. There last name was Russ or Ross.I believe they owned a seltzer factory and one of their products was Ochinsky Beer. I am using the English spelling and pronunciation of "Ochinsky." This beer was supposed to be widely known. Thank you

Viborg, Denmark--- MOSES, LEVINSOHN

Michelle Riemor Muller <mrmprhs@...>
Hello,
It has been a while since I posted, so I thought I'd ask if anyone has more information on my search, which focuses on VIBORG, DENMARK. My ancestor (6x Great Grandfather) , Abraham Moses (Levinsohn?) born 1755, was a member of the community (as of 1794) in Viborg, and sold fine silks and cloths, most likely woven in Viborg in a workshop that belonged to another member of the Moses family. He died in 1808 in Randers. His daughter, Sidsel Marie Abrahamsdatter, my 5x great-grandmother, was born out of wedlock in 1793 to him and Anna Madsdatter a spinner in Viborg (both Anna and Sidsel were born in Sennels, Thy). He lived at St. Mogensgade no. 16 in Nørlyng Herred, Viborg. Abraham & Anna never married, but appear to have continued a relationship in some form after their daughter's birth. A widow at the time, he also had a daughter, Minne, born in 1786, with his wife Beile. Abraham Moses (Levinsohn?) was possibly born in Slesvig. I am looking for more information on him, his family, his origins, & his ancestry. I am also seeking more information on the Jewish community in Viborg ca. 1800. If anyone can help, I'd be most appreciative! Michelle Muller
