BOOK CITE: Novel about Jews in Geroldshausen/Wuerzburg
#germany
Fritz Neubauer
In the German weekly "Die Zeit" of Dec 12, 2001 the author Peter Roos
reviews a novel based on what happend to the Jews in the small village of Geroldshausen near Wuerzburg, narrated by the author who inherited a piece of land there called "Judenacker", who then starts to make inquiries and finds e.g. a family where the father was doctor in Auschwitz etc. and describes how the town deals with the notoriety it gets after the publication of this piece of faction. The review is not included in the net version of the publication (but I could provide it by private Email upon request). The article is illustrated by a photograph of the march of Wuerzburg Jews to their deportation on April 25, 1942 right through the town. I have not read the book, it could be interesting reading for researchers >from the Franconian areas of Bavaria who can read German. It should be available through the normal sources: Voelklein, Ulrich: Der Judenacker: Eine Erbschaft. Bleicher Verlag, 2001. ISBN 3-88350-119-0. 253 pages. Price Euro 22. More on Hebrew Genealogical Terminology
#general
Jane Vogel-Kohai & Ofer Kohai <vogelko@...>
While we're on the subject, does anyone have any idea what
the terminology for a "removed" cousin is? I haven't found an Israeli yet who can tell the difference between a second cousin or a first cousin once removed. Does anyone know of any "old" or "new" term for a "removed" cousin? Thanks- Jane Vogel-Kohai Jerusalem, Israel

new Bielsk Podlaski ShtetLinks site
#general
Andrew Blumberg <ablumberg@...>
Hello,
A new ShtetLinks page has been added to JewishGen for the Polish town of Bielsk Podlaski. It is hoped this site will help you learn more about your ancestral shtetl, how your ancestors lived and perhaps help you discover names of ancestors or relatives. Some original source materials listing names of people from Bielsk Podlaski are contained in the site. The site also contains links to external resources pertaining to Bielsk Podlaski and Jewish life in Poland. The site will be updated periodically and I have already been in touch with people who are going to contribute photos and maps of Bielsk Podlaski as well as additional material >from the Bielsk Podlaski landsmanshaft. If you would like to receive an email when new materials are added to the site please let me know. Please email me if you have any photos, documents, stories or materials that you would like to share with other researchers through this site. I look forward to hearing >from you. Thanks to Brad Gordon for providing the spark to get this project going! The link for the site is http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/Bielsk_Podlaski/ Regards, Andrew Blumberg Searching BLUMBERG - Bielsk Podlaski, Grodno Gubernia, Poland LASKOWITZ - near Bielsk Podlaski and Vilnius, Lithuania

Manchester research
#unitedkingdom
Judy Freedman <ja.freedman@...>
After great frustration looking for my relatives, someone I communicated
with >from the Family Finder suggested the Telegraph, a newspaper for the Jewish community in Manchester and other parts of the UK. They have a feature called Roots which allows you to ask your genealogy questions. It brought instant success for the man who suggested it, and it did the same for me. http://www.jewishtelegraph.co.uk/ My newly discovered Manchester relatives assured me all Jews in Manchester read it. The Chatham Memorial Synagogue is still in existence. The address is 366 High Street, Rochester, Kent ( right in front of the large hospital ). As Paul is also in Kent he should be able find the contact numbers in the local telephone book. Regards Derek Derek & Rosemary Wenzerul dandr@wenzeds.freeserve.co.uk

Book re Pogroms

Flo Elman
Dear Members:
Linda Kern was glad to be able to help look up names of towns in which pogroms took place. She was inundated with requests however, & will have to limit her searches to those she received before today as that is about all she can handle for now. As of now, she will have to turn down any new ones. Thanks for the helping hand Linda. Sincerely, Florence Elman Ukraine SIG Coordinator haflo@shaw.ca
